mp3 question
Someone with lots of computer audio/mp3 burning experience please help me out! Before the days of RIAA harrassment, I used to download mp3's for my personal enjoyment. In trying to be legal, I am now looking for new sites for purchasing those singles that I want without having to buy the whole album. My problem is this...I used to always download at 320 kb, but I have found that sites such as Walmart and iTunes only have 128kb downloads...unacceptable! Besides that, the stupid iTunes site only allows downloads to their iPods, and I am planning on getting a Rio Cali 256 mb player any day now (I don't need to carry around 10,000 songs, just enough for a workout is fine). Also, I burned a cd using the iTunes software, and it doesn't even play on half of my cd players...anyway, could someone point me in the right direction for 320kb downloads? Also, anyone out there with a Rio Cali that can share their experiences with this player? Thanks

I think you can get songs off of napster for a fee now.

with high speed internet more abundant, people seem to encode using 192 bitrate. there's no real need to go up to 320 if you're gonna turn around and burn it on a CD anyways.
www.winmx.com lets you choose the bitrate you wish to search for. you can choose "at least", "equal to", or "at best" - i'm always using at least 192.
don't pay for what you want. it's out there, you just have to find it.

Thanks for your input guys. Keymastur...I use (or used) winmx and loved it. I have noticed that it is never mentioned in the media as a target for the RIAA. Do you have any idea why? If it is safe, I would love to continue using it.

Thanks Dizzle...
it is a device that allows multiple computers to use one internet access point.. however, it has some brains.. allowing all devices on the inside to be blind to the outside world.. ie... addresses of the devices on the network..
yes and no... if this device is the only firewall that you have say in a cable modem environment at home.. it is better than nothing.. but not a true firewall...
basically a router with some instructions on what to do with traffic...
Netgear, and Linksys make decent ones... best buy... or the web...

If I don't want to share, is that an option in the winmx program? Sorry, I only know enough about this to get myself into trouble!
