    economics

Has anybody here taken macroeconomics? This is the first time I have taken any economics class and I have a 8 page paper due in it. Would anybody have any ideas on topics to write about?? I am at a complete loss right now!, The paper is not due to the end of the term so I have ahwhile. I would like to start early so I do not have to worry about it at the last minute.

    thanks

but friedman is quite relevant today - ever heard his statement on slums? something to the effect of "white people dont drive up and unload a bunch of trash to make these poor all black neighborhoods look like a third world country, it is entirely the doing of the residents"

Smith of course is critical to understanding the division of labor and specialization - something that Ford was truly the real pioneer in with the assembly line

    Some topics I find interesting:

    1) indurty specific subsidies ( farm, lumber, etc )
    2) inflation and economic growth/decline
    3) inflation and unemployment
    4) federal monetary policy
    5) tariffs and their effects on trade in a given market segment
    6) examine the free rider system in a large scale context
    7) the irrationality of rationality in an economic context
    8) effects of deregulation on an industry ( electric, natural gas, airline etc )

I use to be an economics major but changed to political science. Of course, I agree with the previous responders in doing research on Milton Freidman and Adam Smith. You could do something regarding how government subsidies affect the free market (in agriculture particularly) and the laws of supply and demand. If you're interested in fiscal policy, you can do a paper on the flat tax or the implementation of a national sales tax. If your still stumped, I recommend going to the following website (http://www.mises.org). Hope this helps.

Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, THAT IS STRENGTH
