Secure PMs?
Guys I just got in touch with the people who make the board we are using. I'm talking about the maker of Vbuletin. I was asking him if the PMs are secure and I got this response.
***********
Without knowing a member's password, or having direct access to the database, private messages are exactly that - private.
***********
Everything is stored on a database, but there is no way we are interested in trying to crack the database to view PMs. Everything is secure guys. Carry on.
If you want to know something, we are going to do whatever it takes to find the answer.

That's great bro, I was not aware that they were secure, do you know if they are secure on every board?

The person I talked to was the designer of vbulletin. It should apply to all vbulletin boards.

thats interesting - the fellas at elite (who use the same software, I think) said it aint so, or that they didnot believe so anyway - and tehy have a few smart mofos in computers there. not many but a few. I wonder what the true skivvy is - not saying the makers were lying but im sure microsoft thinks windows is secure too

Sounds great, but honestly nothing is secure from the Feds if they want your info...
Still good to know Jason that PM's are secure for the most part from everyone else...

The data is kept in a data base.. unless it is encrypted while in the data base... it is sent in clear txt...
thus easily viewed by anyone with access to the data base...
Since licensing is controlled by the software vendor... depending on the data base... it is cheaper not to encrypt... because each data base would need to be kept seperate...
So although it is a possibility.. it is not probable... since 80% of banks don't do it.. it is not reasonable to believe a ASP (application service provider) or ISP would provide this level of service to a chat board..

I think this was cleared up a long time ago. We don't recommend that anyone use PM's to talk about sensitive or private issues.
