What has Bush done.......

I haven't found any facts yet, but it has come to my attention that Pres. Bush has pushed a bill thru that will allow companies to NOT have to pay employees time and a half for after 40 hrs of work per week(all overtime will be included in this). I hope this is not true, I would hate to know that if my company forced me to work overtime that I would be making the same wage as a regular every day hour. This is all major companies need to squeeze the life out of employees.

If someone has any info on this please share.

Im not sure it would pass or even be enforced. I dont think people can be made to work longer than 40 hours unless on different schedule such as doctors fire fighters etc. Or on the 4 day work week.
Makes me curious if that could even fly in the business world we are used to.

I heard he got it passed by attaching it to his budget plan.....it got shot down when he tried to get it pasted by itself......it's suppose to take effect around late March last I heard....my company is posting memos about it saying it is a good thing........but what they forget is we are under a union and have a contract that states we get time in a half for overtime.....looks like it might get ugly.

Actually what the bill will do is make it easier to classify moresaleried employees as exempt for time and one half and instead offer comp time. About 2 million people will be affected.

Thats fuking bullsh!t... I love time/half.. I wonder if Bush has any better ideas.. Maybe show us a way to get out of the hole we're in.. i think his head is up his asshole for this one.. I bank on overtime.. What purpose does this serve.. Doesn't this considerably lower the markets confidence? I feel like it takes away from the fact that people arn't going to be recirculating the money into the economy, cause its not there anymore..haha

Yep, Bush is still pushing for it. Looks like it's gonna hit veterans extra hard--for overtime purposes, if you've got 4 years of military service, that qualifies as 4 years of college and makes you a "professional" and you have to work for salary and not hourly wages. Of couse, if you don't also have a college degree, you'll be stuck doing the menial labor that other non-degreed folks do, but get no time-and-a-half for overtime.

Won't affect me, I'll be leasing out chairs in my shop, my guys will be independant contractors. But it sucks for lots of other guys. Evidently it's good for lots of Republicans, not so good for lots of Democrats.

This is absolute bs...my union will no way put up with it. We get screwed into doing forced ot anyways. Having to take it in time off instead will absolutely force even more people away from many low paying positions where they work hard and try to support a family by working ot....F BUSH

The only thing good that Bush will have done is leave office. Any monkey could have handled this country in a far better way than this crackhead. God this makes me pissed. Does the president have to take drug tests??? Also, remember how much better things got when the last Bush left...I hate to say this but, "NO MORE BUSH"!!!

Im sure there is more to it than just not getting over time. Im sure there are exceptions and probably doesnt involve the average overtime situation. Like above stated, I think it has to do with people on salary making the same 40k a year regardless of whether they put in 40 hours a week or 60 hours a week.
I think the bill just excluded them from saying they get over time pay for the extra work they put in.
When I was in retail the managers would stay for 12-14 hours most of the time for only 33k a year. We averaged it out per hour and they were only making about 12 bucks an hour after you figure out how many hours they put in.

Bro, if this thing goes thru (and from most of the news clippings I read left and right I don't see it not being rammed thru), don't ask questions when your utilities go out after hours and nobody is there to fix it, or there is a snow storm on a weekend and there are no plows out to clear it.

Remember that most unionized government and utility jobs (like blue collars, electricity guys, water...) fall under this "cushy union job" category... and no overtime pay = no after hours work. I've seen it first hand here when the city blew it's overtime budget one winter and wanted the blue collar snowplow drivers to come in at regular wage after hours... yeah right... talk about a nightmare, not one came in... management had to learn to drive plows damm quickly (and I won't tell you what happened to their cars... unions don't like scabs).

On the other hand, although I would never work 30 seconds outside my normal hours without overtime pay, the socialist side of me (which is pretty dämm small!) LIKES the no overtime policy.

The reason is simple... overtime steals jobs.

Management likes overtime as they only have to pay 1 employee to get more work done, even at time and a half it's a bargain as they only pay benefits to 1 person. It's a lot easier to do this than hiring enough people to get the job done without overtime.

To encourage job creation though I see the no overtime pay policy as silly. Instead they should allow people to do as much overtime as possible, BUT the employer gets taxed extra for allowing overtime. It would encourage them to not take the easy way out, and the government wins every way (extra tax revenue from employers AND extra income tax from people working overtime and making more money, and of course more spending). Of course with the current administration (hell who am I kidding, all administrations!) being on the side of big-business and not middle class joe everybody I do not see this ever happening.

'cushy' what does cushy mean? lol... I have many, many, many friends that are union.. I'm curious what a 'cushy' union job is? Red Ketchup came correct, they do not enjoy the company of scabs.. I think I have a decent point, when i mentioned lowering the confidence of the market, and buying power of the individual, if overtime is taken away..

I can comment about the work being sent overseas.. To put it simply, it is cheaper to have the same product researched, and produced in a lil sh!t company - where they pay the employees exceptionally low rates.. Exporting work, is all about making money, I don't believe it gets finished any quicker, or is done any more accurately.. Of course its all about some bozo making 3-400% markup on a product or service, that if produced in the U.S. he wouldn't make nearly as much..

I read a few months ago, that engineers in pakistan.. make $12.00 an hour.. Compared to what engineers make in the states, thats a very low rate.. It's ridiculous, but that is the truth.. As far as quality, We'll have to see where major problems occur.. Definition of Engineering - to use the least amount of money, time, and resources to find soloutions to problems..

guys, guys, guys....do more research on the proposed law...it is focused on people making $75k a year and more that are still getting overtime. Not a very big deal for the majority of the working force. Once you start making a certain amount of money, you should work more than 40 hours a week. But in some areas this is not the case.
