DVD recorders - what's the deal?

Anyone know any makes or models that they would recommend? What should I look for? I notice they are down to 400-500 now. I would love to be able to record the PPV arnold classic and the pride fc/UFC matches.

    Thanks.

I agree with Elliot. . .invest in a dvd burner for your computer and a video card that will allow you to input audio and video. Then you can edit the video however you want. Probably be cheaper that way, too.

That's the model I have and I don't have any complaints at all. I bought it late last year for just under $160 and I think it's went down a lot since then.

Thanks guys. I think you may have save me some major$. One more question though, for PPV stuff, could I unhook my Digital Cable Reciever from my TV and put it between my cable and the All in wonder card on the PC, or would the all in wonder not be able to handle all those channels?
    Thanks again!

I don't actually have one of those cards, yet, but I'm pretty sure there is a tuner in there that will work just like a receiver. It will seperate the channels for you.

Cool, it does say they are only 125 channel tuners. Wondering if I can map higher channels to the 125 they offer?

the more expensive ones can go upto 999 and recive HDTV i belive.. i dont think thoes are allinwonder card i forgot thier name but i'll looko it up for you. and as far as the cable goes call your cable company and ask them for a spliter or just go to home depo and get one its like 2$ and run on cabel to your tv and the other to your pc hance you can record something while your flipping throught the channel on your tv. thats one thing i used to hate about VHS recording you forget flip the channel to some porn and your lil brother ends up haveing an X rated barney tape..

Thanks for the suggestions Elliot. If you can find out the brand of video card that can handle more channels it would be great. I actually have a pent 3, 1200mhz with 60gb drive sitting in a closet. I could put that bad boy behind my tv in the corner and do the cable split and I am set. The tv I have is HDTV with multiple inputs so I can use it for the PC and the Cable and flip back and forth. Sweet.

Just a little follow up on what I decided to do. I was going to upgrade my computer in a couple of months for some new games that are coming out like doom3. I am going to add a ATI 9800 PRO 128mb all in wonder card so I can do all my cable recording in addition to playing the latest games. Probably go with a 200gb hard drive to handle all of the recording and then add a pioneer A06 DVD burner. I did find out that you can buy something called an IR controller that you plug in to a usb port and it will allow the timer recording software to change the channels on your digital cable box. If you don't get one then you are stuck with just basic cable. Anyway, thanks for all the input, now my new computer will also act as a TIVO and DVD recorder. Oh, I am also going to opt for a 500w power supply because there is considerable more drain when you add up all of the devices.
