If you are on the outside of the quad not much but then everybody is different.I hit one and the muscle flexed repeatedly for about 5 mins and then stopped and nothing else ever happened.

To avoid hitting nerves in my quad (after figuring out finally) I lay on my side & jab it in somewhere between the quad & the hams, as long as it gets in there it's all intramuscular. If I sit up straight I always hit a nerve.

I'm with Jersey Juice. Compared to the glutes or even the delts, the odds of hitting a nerve in the quads are big time. And believe me, it's a bitch-and-a-half, since the only injections I do to myself are in the quads. (I always have someone else do my delts or glutes, since two hands are better than one when it comes to getting the angle of the shot right, aspirating, etc.)

I wasn't awar of any difference between sitting and laying on your side, however. Since I always do my quads sitting, I'll have to try that one . . .
