Goals of older guys using juice
When I was a lot younger (im 46 now) I wanted to get as freaky big as possible. As I get older my goals have changed and I am thinking about long term health.
I think the case can be well made that as you get older - over 40 - carrying an extreme amount of mass - even lean mass - takes a toll on your body.
When I am heavier - I need more sleep - have to eat more food - have to be more carefull about jumping down of of steps, and am more restricted in joint mobility - especially the shoulders.
In contrast - I once went extreme about 8 years ago and fasted for 35 days. Ate *NOTHING* but water - not even vits. BW went from 245 to 165 in 35 days flat. I had to flush my intestines to get all the garbage out and you would not like to have seen what was inside me. My liver completely detoxed, my skin and eyes became crystal clear and my gums were so perfect my dentist was amazed. My blood work after the fast showed perfect numbers (except HDL alittle low). My chrinic bronchits completely cleared up.
After the fast I had no fat on my body - had a Xmas tree in my lower back and looked like an underwear commercial. My pecs ( albiet much smaller) has deep division cuts between upper and lower. I looked skinny but surprisingly dd not look emaciated. I was however so weak I could not bench 135# and it took a *year* for me strength to return to 75%. For a bout 2 years after the fast I felt great in every way. I did not need naps in the afternooon. I did not fall asleep in meetings, I woke up alert instead of in peices. Health and energy wise I was the best in my entire life. By 4 or 5 years later I looked like the fat Santa Clause again as in in my before pics in the pics forum, and was sluggish and tired all the time.
This is why I started juicing for the first time this year at age 46. I used the juice to get my old intensity back - boost my metabolism and give me the drive to work hard and burn fat.
My point is that as we get older we cant carry the kind of mass we did in our
20s and 30s. An older lifter must look at juice as a way to retain the MINIMAL amount of mass for strength and joint stability, not a means to get big.
My next xycle (#3) wil use TEST/EQ/FINA and a 2K cal diet to rip me down from my curent muscular 235% at 15% BF to a lean 195# at 4-6%BF. Hopefully Ill still be able to bench 315 but if I can't - so what.
Anyway - this is just one old lifter's reasons for juicing for the first time in his 40s
