i think it depends on what type of steroid you use, it is a fact that steroids dont cause baldness....but if you are genetically going to go bald in the future then certain steroids will speed up the process!
Every persons hair follicules have different genetic traits wich make them sensitive to DHT. Some people are just screwed by genetics and their hair is extremly sensitive to it, thats why using steroids does cause a significant amount of hairloss for them.
Others however have a strong resistance to DHT and are able to withdstand higher amounts and concentrations in their scalp. Those lucky ones can use steroids without much or any affect on their hair.

is it possible to go bald with many years of as use. That is, can you no longer become resistant to DHT?

Many years of use is kind of vague! some people can use steroids for many years but at only one cycle a year, other can do many more. The thing is as you progress with steroid use , you usually tend to increase your steroid dosage, your body needs you to increase the dosage in order for it to grow more and more, but your poor hair isnt getting stronger and stronger! which means as you become a ore advanced user, you will be attacking your hair with more DHT,
So the answer to your qhestion is YES at one point the hair resistance will be broken by your dosage!! Some athletes will go through their lives without ever breaking that barrier, but in all fairness many will break past their DHT resistance without ever using anabolic steroids !!

i think you need to put this issue in the AR SPA forum, or do a search in the AR SPA forum you will find many answers there. The STEROID QUESTIONS forum is designed for general question that are specific to or related to advice on using AS, not dicussing the general side effects.

with the right precautions you can avoid the progression of male pattern baldness just like you can avoid other side effects by following certain courses of action. Plenty of info here if you search.
