Traveling with gear?
Planning on packing 8 syringes and neetles pre-loaded in my luggage, not carry on. It's for a 1 week trip. Does this show on the x-ray machines....? I was just thinking of wrapping a sock around them, putting them in a shoe and see what happens...

i think the x ray machine would show them, i wondered this before perhaps if you did as you say, put them in a sock or two and then in a shoe it would be ok, hope so anyway

I travel and carry. So long as you don't pack it in carry-on you're fine. They don't scan EVEY piece of luggage.. just random here and there.
Put a lock on your case so the x-ray man doesn't get a free cycle.
You're fine.

I had no idea that luggage was randomaly x-rayed. Well the only thing that shows on an x-ray are the neetles. The worst that could happen is they take my neetles, then search for drugs and take it. Right?

Unless your socks were made of lead (think superman.. the only thing his X-ray vision couldn't penetrate) then wrapping in socks is a no-no

Maybe putting the gear in one of those pouches that are supposed to protect film from being destroyed from x-ray will help.

I don't believe they scan every item going on board. If this were the case the airline would ask passengers to show up 12 hours before the flight is scheduled to leave to allow for enough time to scan and check everyone's luggage.
So they find some darts in your bag through an x-ray (which they don't use).. the man assumes you're a diebetic. Big deal. Or do you believe they cut your lock, search the bag, find gear, page your name at the courtesy desk then bust you? I don't think so.
Why do you have porno in your bag?
Why do you have sirynges?
Why is there a dildo in here?
Why is there a radar detector in your bag?
What is this piece of electronics i'm not familiar with?
Why is there a hunting knife in this luggage?
Why is there an aspirin bottle with tabs that don't look like aspirin?
Do you have a prescription for the anti-inflamatories and anti-depressants in your luggage?
If they halted every piece of luggage for suspected contraband the planes would NEVER EVER even be CLOSE to flying on schedule.
Too much paranoya if you ask me.Last edited by Try Me; 07-27-2004 at 10:26 AM.

I just flew. Yes, they scan/x-ray every single peice of baggage. Carry on or not. They scan the carry ons when going through your terminal before boarding. They scan your check-in luggage as soon as they take it from you when you get your boarding passes from your airline.

Iam not sure if film bags completly hide what in them from x-ray but it's worth a try. X-ray must not be able to get to them, since film would be destroyed if it did.

I think you will be fine. I watched the x-ray machines for like 45 minutes waiting on a friend. They pick up shapes that are really dense. I wouldn't think they would pick up a 23 gauge needle. The people i watched were picking out objects that were weapon like and such. If they searched bags that had vials in them, they would search every bag because people's tavel size shampoo and soap would raise a red falg.

keep them in your pocket bro, just maybe take the needles off, yet I kinda doubt they'd get picked up if there weren't too many, just bring exactly what ya need. If really in doubt take the needles off and put something over the to to keep it sterial. Just make sure you don't have any more metal on ya.

In case you do risk it....
What about getting a Doc's note and prescription in case they do question you-
Try and claim that you are a diabetic...

Also all the connecting flights are like less then 1 hour after you got there so customs knows they got to blow thru a big crowd or else 100 to 300 people miss their flights. If you end up with a Friday/Saturday return flight from Mexico at about the 6'ish hour... you might end up with similar circumstances. We had to haul ass thru the entire process and lugging newborne baby all the way - we barely made the next plane.Last edited by Ntpadude; 07-27-2004 at 11:59 AM.

To the dude travelling.. just use my patented (r) B-12 smuggling trick, take a $5 10ml jug of vitamin B-12 , empty it out (it'll take you about 1/2 a second with an 18g) and refil it with your gear. No one in their right mind is going to question a jug of vitamin B, you can buy syringes locally (at your destination) your welcome.

Hey do you all remember that that plane was supposedly hijacked with a dude wielding an exacto blade? They can and DO check your carry ons and everything else. Bringing loaded darts in a carry on is real bad news. There are a few much safer methods of getting your gear on a plane. Think about it.....the actual gear itself is not going to show up especially on a metal detector. I would repackage the gear in my own form of bottle that had no metal on it and looked like a diff type of bottle. There are many diff ways to do this. Get creative and take the time. The effort this takes may seem like a hassle but man with all this garbage going on they have to have security tight. Dont risk doing time just for bringing your own personal gear on a plane. The possiblity of them throwing the book at you if caught is much greater with this being an election year. I am sure they want to beef up the # of busts at airports right now. I sound paranoid but you have to be when playing with fire.

I agree with BigPoppaV why not just bring the gear with you and pick up some needles when you get there? You could probably even bring it carry on. Bag checkers wont bust your balls for your "medicine" bottles, its not like you could attack someone with them.

What about putting everything in a metal container, say you cut open an empty spray deoderant bottle and tape everything inside then glue it back together. X-rays won't go through that, and the tape will keep everything from rattling around.

Couldn't you put the needles in a sewing kit the x-ray view would make it tough for the person to distinguish what kind of needle it was. You could put it in a pack of sewing needles with thread etc. and if they actually asked because they found it and it looked different you could say it was for tearing out seams or something. I seriously doubt they would think you were suzy homemaker and might possibly know what everything in the kit was. The rest of the syringe you could put inside an empty shampoo bottle or something similar.

if the machine is x-raying through the case then why would a sock mask it.
call the air-line and tell them you are diabetic and will be packing your meds and ask how would they like you to pack them. dont give them your name but just do some recon.
