That is the only DNP that exists!

that's like saying when i buy an oxygen source for a wacker oxidation, make sure it is 1,4-para-benzoquinone....theres no such thing as 2,4 p-benzo

you just have to watch for its hydration rating. theres powder and crystal dnp which is directly related to the moisture in it, so you have to adjust doses according to the actual weight of the compound. make sure your not under , or worse, overdosing because of moisture you did or didn't know was in it!

    ...also known as Aldifen.

...2,5 dinitrophenol and 2,6 dinitrophenol exist.

    ...great analogy though!

neither analogue is a good idea.

as a note so called "crystal" DNP is actually 2,6 in many cases. its toxicity is CONSIDERABLY higher than 2,4 for a variety of reasons.

Well actually ........ Aldrich sells 2,3- 2,4- 2,5- and 2,6-dinitrophenol. The 1-position is of course the hydroxy, so why would you think you couldn't synthesize the other isomers?

1,4-p-benzoquinone is just bad nomenclature. It's either 1,4-benzoquinone or p-benzoquinone .... err, I wouldnt use o, p, m, for non-aromatic compounds though. But anyway, you are mixing IUPAC and common nomenclature, just use one or the other.

But you are right about there being no 2,4-benzoquinone.
