Letter from Tijuana cops

So I had my posts about how things were really dangerous with the cops and so forth. I mentioned how I was robbed by off duty police,etc. Anyway, there are some good cops down there and they have cleaned up some of the activity. I made a complaint, figuring it would never be looked at, but just got this letter from Tijuana police. The English and spelling is broken up pretty bad, but they do really want to protect tourists. But as always, please just be careful as I have been there 10 years and even I have trouble once in a while. Unfortunately, I just will not respond because I did have gear on me, and no matter how something sounds, you don't want to mess around with police down there. I am tempted to find these cops that robbed me, but its just not worth taking a chance on getting popped again. Anyone else have any thoughts? Would you go after cops that robbed you? I say not worth taking the chance as the whole thing might be another bait to get me, but would so love to see those punks dealt with. If anyone is interested in specific details, just PM me. I blocked out my name obviously, but here's the letter....typos, bad grammar and all. Again, I'm only posting so we all are safer, don't wan't to scare anyone from getting their gear. As you most likely are aware by now, there are several institutions concerned and involved in your case.

It is our interest and obligation not only to see that this criminals you discribe is punished but to also prevent this type of actions from happening.

Therefore we need of your full cooperation by provinding more information as well as your presence in order to identify the person you reffer to. We can guarantee your safety in town by personally receving you at the border and scorting you to Tijuana City Hall where we can safely handle this procedure.


Please let me know the date and time that you maybe able to do this and we will arrange everything so your visit will be pleasant and productive to all of us.

Exactly, sounds like a trap to me. If mexicans were having trouble with american cops do think america would offer to escort them around next time they come? No way! So do you really think mexicans would. Cops have a brotherhood, they protect each other day in and day out, theyr not gonna sell out for you, good cops or bad cops. A cop is a cop.

I myself am from Argentina which is no where near as corrupt as Mexico, and know how it all works in those countries.
They could do whatever they want with u out there and u cant do nothing. In those countries everybody is paid off and just looking for easy money.

I have to disagree with the other replies. Tourism plays a hyoooge role in the Mexican economy. The governmental agencies tasked with supporting tourism swing a really big dick in Mexico. It won't be ordinary cops escorting you to City Hall, I can promise you that. Ask, when you set up the meet at the border, just to be safe. I would not go, with only a regular city police escort, for obvious reasons already stated by the other posters.

If you decide to go for it, first of all schedule this for early morning, say 9:00 so any delays will probably not keep you on the other side past dark. Make sure that the media is notified. A radio or TV reporter or newspaper reporter or photographer from either side of the border will be teriffic. If the media is told to scram, you scram, too. Don't go alone. Take as many friends as possible. A party of a dozen would not be out of line. The only thing a crooked cop or a cop covering for a crooked cop hates more than a witness is a dozen witnesses including representatives of the media.

Check on your own liability to prosecution. I don't believe you can be prosecuted for having posessed the gear that you had at the time, after the fact, but just make sure, mostly for your own peace of mind and confidence,which will enhance your credibility as a witness and victim.

I remember back in I think 78 when they cleaned house in the Matamoros PD...they had a hell of a time getting gringos to go back across to finger the worst cops, the ones singled out for prosecution. (they fired nearly the entire police force, but prosecuting even a majority would have been impossible) Us "savvy" border rats said hell no, but the snowbirds from Minny-sober down there in their winnebagos, the ones that were still there in early summer, went over by the dozen. I never heard tell of any coming to grief.

The more publicity surrounding your trip, the better, I think. To be sure, the possibility exists that there is intent to take you for "the taxi ride" but it is unlikely, and it is not possible under the watchful eye of the media and with sufficient backup to keep an eye on you. Just don't go ANYWHERE alone! And be sure you are not gonna end up in jail yourself! Is it worth paying a Mexican lawyer $50 for some answers? It is, if it is worth $50 to you to be able to go in the first place.

Good luck. Be safe. Listen to your instincts. If you don't feel comfortable with it, either before, or at any time, trust your guts and blow it off.

So, lets say he goes down there with 12 people, media, and a lawyer.

Mexican police have lawyers. Doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out what an American was doing in mexico for less than 24 hours with a bunch of gear in his posession......so now you will look like an ass in front of a bunch of mexican cops, your 12 friends, and the media will know about it.

MMA VET, you get to the point very well. My thinking exactly I just didnt want to start a bunch s*it!
In his other posts he does put up some interesting statements that only a somewhat experienced TJ runner would no! But yet when I questioned his actual experience, that he was very careless when coming out of a Vet store down there, he seemed to stumble in my opinion. I no this first hand a ten year vet doesnt just come out of store with a bag of juice in his hands, especially if your not from TJ. He claimed he had numerous store owners etc that would stand up for him. To me thats the number 1 rule I was informed of dont walk out of a store with obvious stuff in your hands! Not to be rude, but I will give you guys an example of what a 10 year vet does when he goes down to TJ. He drives in parks behind a vet store and the store owner helps him take apart his car. Thus loading it up with about 10 gs worth of Anabolics! This varries of course but lets just say I no a few!
