    Death and injection

Someone told me the other day that when you inject if you don't get all of the air bubbles out then it could kill you. Is this true???

Yes and no. You would have inject a ****load of air into a vein in order to cause any major problems. This is why you aspirate before injections. Injecting 3cc's of oil could cause major health problems as well.

Be safe, aspirate before you inject.

depending on the person, it takes more than 5 ml of air.. that's more than your syringe can hold... it'd also have to be shot directly into a vein.

injecting air intramuscularly is not dangerous and a common myth in relation to fear of injecting air pockets intraveiniously. The injection has to be a main artery flowing back to the heart. The air pocket if big enough can cause irregular hear pulsation acting almost like a heart attack. More than once in haste and lack of time I have forgotten to remove atleast a full CC of air from the barrel and injected. Nothing to worry about at all.

When you're doing an IM injection the purpose of aspirating is to make sure that you're not injecting into a vein within the muscle. Accidently putting oil into your veins can cause a lot of irritation, severe coughing and dizziness, but isn't fatal unless you inject a LOT of oil. Even if there was air in the syringe and you happened to hit a vein (and didn't aspirate ), it would still take quite a lot of air to kill yourself.
