    Naxen

    I hear naxen is great for overworked muscles and was wondering if this is the same for all anti-inflammatorys like ibuprofen.

    Actions: inhibits prostaglandin synthesis. Is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug with analgesic and antipyretic properties. Inhibits platelet aggregation and prolongs bleeding time but does not alter whole blood clotting, prothrombin time or platelet count.

    Indications: Mild to Moderate pain related to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gouty arthritis, juvenile arthritis, and primary dismenorrhea. Also may be used for orthopedic post-op pain, postpartum episiotomy and uterine contraction pain, bursitis, and tendonnitis.

    Pediatric Dosage: Single Dose 7 mg/ kg, Number of daily doses = two, Maximum Dose mg/ kg/ day 15

    Child: 10mg/kg in two divided doses.

    Onset: 30-45 minutes

    Peak Plasma Concentrations: 2-4 hours

    Steady State: Occurs in 4 -5 days, but may take as long as 3-4 weeks

    Metabolism: liver and excreted in the urine and breast milk. 99% protein binding. Naproxen, itself is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

    Half Life: 13 hours

    Contraindications: active peptic ulcer; patients in whom asthma, rhinitis, urticaria, bronchospasm, or shock is precipitated by aspirin or other NSAIDS. Patients with severe hepatic disease or hypersensitivity to NSAIDS or aspirin should not take this medication.

    Warning: history of upper GI tract disorders; impaired renal, hepatic, or cardiac function; patients on sodium restriction; low pretreatment Hgb concentration; fluid retention, hypertension, heart failure; geriatric patients.

    Drug Interactions: Bleeding time effects of oral anticoagulants, heparin may be prolonged; may increase lithium toxicity.

    Availability:

    Aleve (P-G) tablets 200mg
    Anaprox (Syntex) tablet 275 mg
    Anaprox DS (Syntex) tablet 550 mg
    Naprosyn (Syntex) PO suspension 125 mg/5 ml tablet 250, 375, 500mg
    Maximum Dosage

    Doses should not exceed 1.25 grams/day of Naproxen or 1.375 grams/day of Naproxen sodium. Should be taken with a full glass of water on a empty stomach for best results. May be taken with food to relieve GI symptoms.

    Usual Dose

    Naproxen 500mg followed by 250mg q6-8 hours
    Naproxen sodium 550mg followed by 275mg q 6-8 hours
    Route: oral - no other froms available

    Side Effects: Most common- headache, drowsiness, dizziness, anorexia, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and edema

    Warning: Report any visual or hearing disturbances, any weight gain, increase in pain, fever, or blood in the urine, discontinue drug and notify physician.

    How do you know if it works-obviously pain would decrease and the patient would report less pain. Remember it takes 3-4 week to reach optimum drug effects.

    Pregnancy: Do not take this medication if you are pregnant or nursing without first contacting your physician. Pregnancy category (B).

    Children: Not recommended for use in children under 2 years of age.

    i don't know about naxen, but most anti-inflammatories hurt recovery and hinders gains.

    Naxen is an injectable Naproxen, I beleive. I use Naproxne religiously and it works great. I've never seen the injectable kind before.
