Why do nutritionists always say 'THATS WAY TOO MUCH PROTEIN!"

Seems that everyone I know who is either a nutritionist or studying nutrition says that even 1gram per pound is way too much protein.

Seems they are all about the carbs and that 60/20/20 is ideal

Currently I am eating 3500 calories at 40/40/20 and this is a disgusting diet according to any nutrionist I speak with...I dont get it

Yet when you speak with a bodybuilder...steroid user or not, they will tell you more in the likes of 1.5-2grams per weight

It's because the average person, unlike bodybuilders, aren't trying to put on muscle. While protein isn't unhealthy, there is a point where the average person just stops using the protein that he or she has in there body because they aren't active. The average person, even those who are 2 day a week lifters, will be fine way below 1 gram per pound, but if putting on weight is your goal, protein is key. One of the myths behind this that I have heard is that more then 1 gram per pound will lead to fat gains. But the thing that doesn't make any sense with that is if a person is going to eat a set amount of calories (lets say 3000) if you have a little more protein then carbohydrates its not gonna make a huge difference. There are still 4 calories per gram of protein and there are still 4 calories per gram of carbs as well.
