Finasteride is the active substance in both Proscar and Propecia. Even Google could have told you.

finasteride
The recommended dosage for an average man (i.e. non steroid user) concerned with hairloss is 1 mg per day of finasteride. This is one pill of propecia or 1/5 pill of proscar.
I imagine you should adjust accordingly (higher dosage) depending on your steroid cycle.
I have heard that "success" with finasteride should be viewed as a slow down, or stoppage, of hairloss but that it can be as much as 6 months before you get the benefits.

how do they measure the squirt bottles ? I have also been told not to use when cycling Tren , is there any truth to this ? The reason I'm asking all of this is because my brother in law uses propecia, even though he's not on as, its like night and day,the way it works for him . I know the as makes a big differance, + age and everything else, but he's like them guys you see in the hair loss comercials . Just wondered if it was worth it for me to get a perscription for propecia, or just give up, or up my finastride dose ?

I posted this on another thread but will do it again here in hopes of getting the word out. To my understanding Propecia is 1mg of Finistride and Proscar is 5mg of Finistride. Propecia is used for cosmetic purposes (hair loss) and not covered by insurance (mine anyway) but Proscar is for prostate reduction and is covered by insurance. For me it didnt take anything for my doc to prescribe Propecia and after reading this board I went in again and asked if he could prescribe Proscar and I would cut it up. He said "WOW I never thought of that". He wrote me a script to get 1 mo filled locally and then 3 mo via mail order. The mail order one will average out to 15 mo at 1mg and cost me about $70.00. I would advise you guys to look into it...
