take a knife with small serratted teeth, and score the amp at the smallest point(on the neck of the amp, there is usually a line there) then take a paper towel and gentlty snap off the top. This will make a clean break, also if glass did fall in you wouldn't be able to draw it up through the needle.

With amps I just use some tp and put my thumb on the line around the neck and finger on top and snap it off but I also use a filter needle.

I heard that if you put the amp in a glass of hot water for 30sec, it makes it easyer to open. Does this hurt the oil based liquid inside the amp?

Take a wash cloth wrap it around the base and hold in my left hand, take the tail of the towel in my right hand grab the top and snap the fu*ker. I also use a filter needle to draw out of an amp so I don't have to worry about glass shards or any other debris.

you posted this twice and no it doesnt it actually make it easier to load in the needle and if you have your gear in a cold spot which is not recommened this will help you out because sometimes the gear will crystalize
