Those shots will alleviate the pain for a while but you cannot use cortison long term.

It will make you pain free but that does not mean your problem is gone. Frequently guys will return to working out heavy after a cortisone shot only to have the pain come back worse after the effects of the cortisone shot wear off. Try to work on alleviating the problem not the symptoms.

No it is more than a pain killer, but it does mask the pain well.

How does the cortisone injection help?
Cortisone is a powerful anti-inflammatory medication. Cortisone is not a pain relieving medication, it only treats the inflammation. When pain is decreased from cortisone it is because the inflammation is diminished. By injecting the cortisone into a particular area of inflammation, very high concentrations of the medication can be given while keeping potential side-effects to a minimum.

If you can stand it a month shouldn't hurt, no need to agitate a healing tissue.
