very short bit from article from dec 05 flex magazine

Creatine Methyl Ester This form of creatine, also known as methylated creatine, is similar in some ways to CEE. The major difference between CEE and methylated creatine is the molecule attached to the creatine. Creatine methyl ester has a methyl group (a carbon atom with three hydrogen atoms) affixed to it. This simple organic attachment helps to protect the creatine from breaking down as it gets digested and metabolized, thus leading to greater uptake.

Some concern has been raised about supplements with methyl groups attached to them. Methylation can allow substances, such as oral anabolic steroids, to be passed through the digestive tract and metabolized by the liver without being destroyed.

Although the body better absorbs methylated steroids , they can cause liver hepatotoxicity or liver damage. Currently, the effects of methylated supplements on the liver are unknown, but some experts speculate that such supplements may further compromise that organ in those who already have liver problems. People with healthy livers should have few problems at the dosage of methylated creatine required to offer benefits. Methylated creatine products call for a smaller dose than creatine monohydrate--only 1-2 g before and after training.
