Fina help? Making it without a kit. Oil/Water based?

OK I have some questions about making Fina. I read many threads about this but has anyone ever made it without a kit? Also I know that the kits have oil can you make it water based. I have some sterile water for injections. Is there a plus side to using oil or is it just always been done like that???

wow interesting questions all i can say is i would not make it without kit,binders-sterility-ect---i think certain ones have to be desolved in oils

I make mine without a kit but I have access to an autoclave (sterilizer). I grind the pellets into a fine powder, then dissolve in benzyl alcohol, then add that to sterilized oil. Heat that in a hot water bath and shake it hard every few minutes and let it settle. The binders go to the bottom. You can then draw up all the liquid, being careful not to get the binders. I don't know if this is a good method or not. I just figured that since I have access to the equipment I should try it. I am starting to use it in a couple weeks so I'll post on how it worked out.
