I have heard of beta blockers. I believe they help you remain calm, at least on the outside, in nervous situations. I have to take a public speaking class in the fall and I want to know more on this subject. Good question Doofmister. Bump...

Came back from the heart doc,said nothing serious,think he said there was some leakage or something but nothing serious and that every other person has it,and i think he also said something about a murmur but very little and its unnoticeable and i shouldn;t worry about it unless i notice chest pain or something

as for the cycle??? help?

What are you referring to Doofy? I guess I must have missed your post about your doctor's visit. Anyway, glad to hear you're ok. I'm curious about beta blockers. How exactly do they work?

Beta-blockers usually are used to treat high blood pressure. Normally they are taken once or twice each day to decrease the frequency of irregular heartbeats, chest pain, or anxiety related to the abnormal beats.

How It Works

Beta-blockers interrupt the normal chemical signals transmitted by nerves that stimulate, and sometimes overstimulate, the pacing of the heart. They slow down the heartbeat and reduce blood pressure.

Why It Is Used

Beta-blockers are used to relieve symptoms of palpitations, chest pain, or anxiety that are not relieved by changes in diet, lifestyle, and exercise. Beta-blockers do not improve the functioning of the mitral valve.

How Well It Works

Beta-blockers prevent or inhibit several types of specific irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias). They may also control the rapidity of the heart response.
Beta-blockers relieve chest discomfort, especially in people with rapid resting heart rates.
Side Effects

By lowering the blood pressure and slowing the heart rate, beta-blockers may cause lightheadedness, decreased energy, fatigue, and depression. People with diabetes may have an increase in their blood glucose while taking beta-blockers.

What to Think About

The doctor may want to perform 24-hour electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) monitoring (Holter monitoring) before prescribing a beta-blocker or another medication to prevent or inhibit irregular heart rhythms (antiarrhythmic medications). A 24-hour EKG is done to confirm that the palpitations are associated with irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias).

People should not stop taking or skip doses of beta-blockers without their doctor's advice. Stopping these medications without tapering them off may cause a rise in blood pressure and heart rate and an increase in symptoms.

These medications also may be used to lower blood pressure and control chest pain (angina) due to coronary artery disease.

the most common side effects are: fatigue/shortness of breath/insomnia..... we discussed some about beta-1 agents a few days ago with "joker".......if you need to use one of these substances due to hypertension or such, i suggest staying away from things like toprol if possible and go with something like ziac...yes you need a rx to get it legally as well as the rest of them....ziac is a combination of bisoprolol and hctz(you know how we like to stack around here..HAHA), same principle with this med, it uses an anti-hypertensive stacked with a diuretic to give a profound responce with minimal doses and light side effects.....

and to answer the question doofy....i keep some ziac in my cabnet just incase my pressure goes up while im bulking in the winter...usually does go up to some degree and unless my body fat gets to high i dont need it, (but i dont ned nolva either and i keep it in stock)....you mostly feel a little tired for about a week on it, then you go back to feeling normal again......and also thought i would through out that beta blockers are known to cause impotence...(ouch)....but if you have that problem,and it usually only decreases the strength of your erection not full impotence, it clears up when you stop the med....and you must taper off of it.....

Good point Viper, quitting a beta-blocker "cold turkey" is extremely dangeous and cause you to have a heart attack. If you don't want your heart to explode, you have to come off by tapering down.

I am taking Toprol XL 25 mg (beta blocker) once a day and I recently started Primo. I have had no problems, however like I said I just stated. Let's hope for the best!

I also am taking Toprol @100 mg. E.D. WITH
600 MG.CYP.TEST E.W.
25 MG. VAR E.D.
.5 ARIM E.D.
50 MG. PROVIRON E.D.
300 MG. DECA E.W.
The Toprol makes me tired and sometimes dizzy so I have to cool on squat day.I have not slowed down in intensity,still making gains and B.P. is under control. Morphias

Joker, yes I have done AS and they have caused no problems.

I am taking it because my heart beats irregularly from time to time. This keeps it beating correctly. My heart just completely freaks out some time.

Doublewide I take the Toprol for supra ventricular tachycardia, which is a rapid heart beat and I also have irregular beats from time to time. Has the AS made your heart beat anymore irregular than it already was?

Morphias has the AS negatively affected yor heart or medicaton? And do you take the medication simply for high blood pressure or irregular heart beats?
