A 6pack is based on a low fat diet. Working just the abs does abso-SMURFLY-nothing, if you need to loose weight.

Fat loss is not localized, so you need to loose weight all around to uncover those abs.

Exactly- all doing abs does is build up the muscle that is underneath any subq fat you may have.

I would do abs just slightly more frequently than any other muscle... like 2-3 times a week.

doing abs every day is what helped me develop my 6-pack. i work them every day so regardless of what i eat my stomach always looks good.

but the guys are right, by doing insane amounts of ab work you will be developing the muscles themselves but not be able to see your hard work until that fat is gone.

Although your right, to answer his question. Yes they can be trained everyday. Abs and calves both.

What makes them any different than the other muscles? Don't they need just as much time off to recover from an intense workout? I only do them once, maybe twice a week.

Whoa, flex. Not trying to start a pissing match over whose abs look better, just want to know why they are different than the rest of the muscles in that you can hit them hard everyday.

I never intended a pissing match.

I'm just saying that most give an opinion based on what works for them. So if you are saying working them once a week is better than eod, you should post and show us hwo the once a week is working.

my added edit also...I didn't mean to single you out directly. I wasn't saying you in particular, which it seemed since I quoted your reply. I was just saying in general people that do them once a week.

honestly, I don't have the best abs. The point of my question was to find out why it's ok to work abs everyday. If I did bi's everyday they might grow, but not as much as they would if I took a couple days off and let them recover before breaking them down again. do you feel that your abs are recovered enough after one day to hit them again? I ussually hit them pretty hard, then give them two or three days off. The soreness you feel is the muscle healing and growing. It doesn't make sense to me to abuse a sore muscle... I let it rest. If I'm wrong I can assure you it would not be the first time.

I think part of it is that not many people want really big ab muscles, they just want to tone it up. So if you work it eod, then it will be more tone compared to once a week where the ab muscles grow. just a thought.
