For fat burning it is around 60-70% your max and cardio training is 70-85% your max, depending on how conditioned you are. Your max it 220 minus your age.

I wear a hear rate monitor and my max is 160. Anywhere between 120-160 is a good rate. Experts say it's ~105-160.
Pain I'm a little confused can you please elaborate. And if between 120 and 160 is a good heart rate, if I get up to 170 or 180 is that even better or even worse???? Thanks!!
Depends on what you do. If you for example try to jog slowly and if the heart rate is low (120) it means that your heart has a good capacity in pumping blood. On the other hand if you do HIIT training a very high heart rate indicates that your heart is capable of pumping at a fast rate which can also be wiewed as a good thing.Quote:

For fat burning I think 120-160 is good. For cardiovascular training then go higher.
Don't forget higher doesn't mean better...you can become anaerobic.
Muscles can use calories in two ways aerobically (with oxygen) and anaerobically (without oxygen). Aerobically - lactic acid can be easily removed from the muscles/blood stream. Anaerobically - lactic acid builds up in the muscles/blood stream...and high amounts of lactic acid is detrimental to performance.
I agree, it is hard to say it depends on your body and your conditioning and exactly what you are going for.
