What does SERM stand for?

Can anyone explain SERM for me and how it is differant than any other aromtise inhibitor? thanks

SERMs are not the same as aromatase inhibitors. It stands for Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator/modifier. Commonly Nolva/clomid and recently raloxifene fall into this category. They are both estrogen receptor agonist's and antagonist's. Therefore they bind the estrogen receptor, and depending on which tissue, either act as estrogen or block estrogen. They block the estrogen receptor in breast, some brain tissue, but bind and activate the estrogen receptor in bone, liver and cardiovascular tissue (positive effect).
