Yep, both. An hour before, and right after. Works well.

After. I always have a high protein/carb snack about 30 minutes before I workout for an extra energy boost.
I drink one 45 min. before my workout and then another one when I'm done with 3 tablespoons of honey
what is the honey for??!?
I would say the honey is for the insulin spike(glycogen restore too) to absorb the nutrients that follow...I use apple juice for the same thing post workout...

How dumb to not put a "both" option in the poll. If cutting, drink shake "after" WO, bulking or gaining muscle then both... a before but not after is a stupid option no one needs and doesnt work for either cutting or bulking. Need protein charge before workout so you dont catabolize your muscles to get some needed protein for during and clearly you need some after to help repair damage and also after w.o. also is ideal time because muscles are very receptive to absorbing protein at that time.Quote:

Both for me i take a split 30g protein mixed with a weight gain 2-3hr before training and the same afterwards but up the protein to 50g. Normally you can absorb 1-1/2 to 2 times more protein after a workout, so you need to flood the muscles of protein whilst they are willing to absorb that much, normally 30g is max every 2 hours, unless your on a cycle. I never have any food or shakes 2-3 hours before training otherwise your bloods digesting the food instead of feeding your muscles. You should find you get a better pump that way. I'm no diet xpert, but over the years this works best for me.Quote:

both for me as well
I drink 4 to 5 a day so both before and after. After is more important to me however
i like one about 1/2 hour before then a carb drink and a protein shake after the workout. i was told by a close friend, who is alos a nutriotionist, and competitive bodybuilder that the carb drink immediately after the workout was important, then about 15 minutes later i have a protein shake.
Your friend is right. Carbs are very important after a workout. They help replenish the glycogen that your muscles use for contraction.Quote:

I like one before and after also, but I find I personally do better with a large meal shortly before workout. I've always done that it works for me. I know alot of people disagree and say a small meal is better but everyone responds differently
both and a meal directly after workout
I have one before and after i work out.
Yah, I add 5 gms of both creatine and glutamine in with mine. 2 hours after the post-workout shake I feed the monster again . . .
post workout i drink a high carb/protien shake with some glutamine, before a workout i eat a light carb meal such as oatmeal, pb sandwich, nothing too much. I'm currently bulking up for the new year, I need to start drinking more before. I used to drink muscle milk before and I had better weight gains with that.
