Normally I have a protein shake before going to bed at night, but I am now taking ZMA which is not as effective if taken with calcium. Anyone know of protein powders that are calcium free or low in calcium that i can take at night with my ZMA? Or any other suggestions on how I can still get my protein at nigh? Since its best to take on an empty stomach eating high protein foods wouldn't be much better than drinking my current protein shakes.

I also have the same problem with ZMA products. Your supposed to take them on an empty stomach before bed and not with any Calcium products. It's kind of a double edged sword for us because you should have something high in protien before bed to avoid catabolic problems. The only thing I do when I'm taking ZMA is eat a meal that doesn't have any dairy products and use egg whites for my protein source and approx. 2 1/2 hours later I take the ZMA before bed.

Ok, here is the lowest calcium Protein supplement I have been able to find so far...

VITALABS WHEY 24
Nutrition Facts
Serving Size:
1 Scoop - 30 Grams
Amounts Per Serving

Calories 112
Total Fat 0g
Cholesterol 0mg
Sodium 70mg
Carbohydrates 4g
Protein 24g
Calcium <2%
INGREDIENTS: Whey Protein Concentrate, Hydrolyzed Whey, Ion Exchange Whey, Stevia and Natural Flavor.

For Calcium 1% is approx 10mg so this would be less than 20mg where as my regular Protein, ON has 170mg (17%). I may be looking at a new protein powder for night time unless anyone has other ideas.

Eggs have no calcium and it's a slower form of protein unlike all the whey proteins that digest too fast. 5 hardboiled eggs = 30 grams of some of the best protien your body can use. Whey after working out but not before bed.

Ok, here is what I think I am going to go with for my Night Protein...

ON 100% Egg Protein
Calories 100
Total Carbohydrate 4 g
Dietary Fiber 1 g
Sugars 0 g
Protein 22 g
Calcium 20 mg

All the casein powders are high in calcium and i figure this is the next best thing for night protein since I can't choke down egg yolks at night (and don't want to have to eat 9 eggs to get 30g of protein) and should take ZMA on an empty stomach I don't want to eat a steak or anything like that just before bed time.
