Former Astros IF Ken Caminiti, the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1996 as a Padre, says he won the award while on steroids and that at least half of major leaguers use the drugs. In a Sports Illustrated report on steroids in baseball, Caminiti confirmed he used them the season he batted a career-high .326 with 40 home runs and 130 runs batted in. ``I've made a ton of mistakes,'' said Caminiti, a recovering alcoholic and former drug user whose 15-year career ended last season. ``I don't think using steroids is one of them.

The reason he openly admitted it is b/c Canseco was about to rat him out, so he ratted himself out first to make it look like "ooh..I'm the honest man, I've got nothing to hide"
The media will have a field day with this story. An uneducated media preaching to an uneducated public.

I think him and Canseco have something going to drum publicity for their books and articles coming out. I ould almost bet the house that Camineti gets a % of SI sold.:afro:
