Hello. 2 years ago I started getting shoulder pain, which just got worse even with rest. I took 6 months off and went back to working out, but the pain came back. I saw a doctor and had an MRI. It was a rotator cuff and maybe torn labrum. Doctor sent me to therapy for 2 months and it started feeling better until I got to the heavier weights again. I went back to the DOc and he said I would need surgury. I had arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn shoulder labrum, nothing wrong with my rotator cuff, last october. I had 2 anchors attached to my bone/labrum to help healing and have been rehabbing for 6 months. The doc says its ok to start lifting again and it would take a year to fully recover. I can live that.

My question here is: Has anyone gone through this type of operation and had a 100% recovery or close to it? I did my first workouts this weekend and I was very weak, but with little pain. Any input would be a great help. I just want to get back to where I was.

i have had severe shoulder problems myself and i have made full recoverys several time over, my friend also had a labrium surgery(i did not) and he has full ROM and full strenght(he weighed 180 pounds and was pressing in the 300lb neighborhood)as long s you do the PT exercises to strenghten the cuff post surgery and keep up with them, and lift light when you first start and work your way back slowly you should be fine

Thank Doc! Very encouraging input. I only hope i dont push myself too hard at first. I just need to go light for a few months. I really miss pushing up those heavy weights.

Bronski, I tore my left labrum and fractured my left humeral head back in the day, (11 years ago), when I was in gymnastics on the rings. Like Doc said you should be good, but you also gotta keep common sense in check,........eg. heavy flyes, wide grip pressing of any sort, full ROM on dips, etc. .......basically anything that isn't shoulder friendly to begin with could possibly irratate/exaserbate your condition in a hurry.

Like I said it's common sense, but for me, some of these exercises were my favorites and almost second nature, so just use caution.
