I think it depends i was planning to compete. when i talked to my trainer iwas at 160ish he told me i would need to come down to 135-140 shreeded. This is just my experince. So you might be able to gauge from their.

You won't know til you try competing for the first time.
Weight is just a number.
When i started competing i was under 160 lbs.
My advice?
Get a coach.. get a plan.. stick to it.

lol if you diet for a week? who fed you this horseshit? try 12 weeks atleast. you could compete, but in all honesty, i wouldnt expect to win. not sure what age group you would be going for, and you would be looking at losing ATLEAST 10lbs of fat/water in order to be in very good condition. but, we all start somewhere, i say go for it, this way, you will only get better at dieting, and then, as you add mass, you will also know how to display this new mass, a la get rid of the fat and water, when it comes time to get on stage. good luck matey

you can compete at any time...sometimes its good just to get experience and get your feet wet...just pick a show and start dieting 12 weeks out and go when you feel ready...good luck bro, keep training hard

Dude.. who ever is filling your head with these numbers need to stop.
Ditto for the guy that told you could diet for a week and be 'ready'.
Ditto for the guy that you it would be hard to gain weight from the point where you are.
you've 3 years of training under belt.. so no more noob gains to be had (like your 50 lbs you gained in the 3 years you've trained.) At this point you can probably add 5 or so pounds of quality muscle per year natty.
It isn't hard... just requires that one be consistent with one's diet and training from day to day.. from month to month.. etc.
