was do people say that bar is best for bench...what makes it better than dumbells?

bar is not better then db its a matter of body type and what works for each individual

as for me the bar is where i make my gains as far as mass goes and db are more for shaping for the chest. it also depends on the exercise as well too!.. db can make a gd mass builder for biceps.

I find a dumbell in one hand and a barbell in the other gives a great workout :)

db are more for shaping for the chest
I'm always confused when I see people talk about exercises, "shaping" or "Cutting Up" their muscles....
I'm not suggesting certain exercises don't contribue to a certain look as opposed to others, but 90% of your appearance is your diet, and not your choice of exercises....
What works for you is what works for you, dont get me wrong, but don't ever think that you cant add mass/acheive a certain look because you are doing dumbbell presses and not bench press. If you eat for size and train with that exercise properly, you will add size. If you eat for fat loss and train with that exercise, you will shred up.
The botton line is your appearance (whether you wan't mass or definition) is a direct reflection of your diet.

Personal preference. I like dumbells on a regular basis and get on the bench once every 3rd or 4th week.

i did DB's for a long time and gained a lot of strength, but size for me comes from the bar. but that is through experimentation. do the same.
