Just put the finishing touches on my garage and planning on getting some gym equipment in there now for days I can't make it to the gym or when I want to lift before I go to work.

What would you say are the essentials to have in a home gym?

Some guys on here have nice home gyms, hopefully they can chime in.

The first thing that comes to mind is a nice power rack.

Yes definitely a squat rack, a strong, sturdy incline/decline bench. fixed dumbbell bars. Two 45 pound barbells and lot's and lot's of free weights.

I've spent like 2,400 dollars of equipment but it's well damn worth it..:7up:

Squat rack, this will double as a rack for your bench (most come with a chin up bar across the top), Adjustable bench (flat, incline, decline) olympic bar+weights, dumbells.

i've got the standard olympic weight set with a detached bench. the rack telescopes to a squat rack. i also have a pull up / dip tower with a fold out assister on it that uses rubber bands like the soloflex. i was very lucky to locate a pulley tower with plates for pull downs on craigslist for 30 bucks. lol. it's from 1982 but still works like a charm. look for good used deals.

I just bought myself a niiiiice BodyCraft F430 power rack with a lat and low row attachment. Cost about $1600 oz so pretty decent.

It's built like a brick shithouse and comes with spotter arms so you can squat or bench heavy without worrying about killing yourself.

I'd recommend starting with a quality power rack and adjustable bench. Of course you'll need a good barbell and weights to go along with that rack. From there just add equipment to suit your training needs. Here are some pictures of my power rack and home gym.

Membership is free, but other than my wife no one wants to train with me. They're all too scared! I did have one guy who used to come over and train with us a few months ago. He brought a friend of his from out of town over one day to train with us. About a third of the way thru the workout his friend became very pale, threw up, and then his eyes rolled up into the back of his head and he passed out on the floor (true story). I got a cold wet towel and put it over his head while he layed on the floor. To the guy's credit, he did eventually get up and finish the workout with us but that might have been because I kept laughing at him and hurling insults toward's him questioning his manhood as he layed on the floor. :1laugh: My little gym ain't for the weak or the weak hearted.

LOL, thanks. I actually have more equipment that is in the garage, but I don't have pictures of the pieces in the garage. It took a couple of years to acquire all the equipment, but it was worth it. My latest acquisitions are a Nebula Leg Press and a Nebula Hack Squat which are in the garage portion of the gym. I still need to get a Glute Ham Raise and would like to also get a monolift or maybe a monolift attachment for the power rack.

Thanks for all the input guys. Also I definitely second the notion that Sports Authority is the place to go for Olympic weights. Just brought a 300lb set with the bar for $179.00
