View Full Version : Anyway to do squats without hickey marks?

Alright - so I decided I was far past due for some good ole squats...I added em to my routine and just finished my second go around with em. I'm pretty much finish the set with 300lbs and doing 6 reps (nice good ole pain) - but now I'm seeing massive red hickey lines around my neck and shoulders from doing em! I've tried doing squats using a bar and also one of the 'free motion' machines (as it's easier to maintain good form with these machines).

Is this something I'm just going to have to get used to? Is it possibly something I'm doing wrong as far as my form or the amount of weight I'm using? It's really no big deal now, but I'm trying to build my legs up a lot more and am hitting twice a week - I can only imagine how the shoulders will look in a month or so!!

Get used to it bro, you can wrap the bar in a towel or foam but I feel this screws me up sometimes when I go heavy. Wear them with pride.

Exactly.....why worry about your battlescars??? Be proud and show 'em off to those panzy's that just ride the stationary bikes the whole time there.

It looks really awesome, and is more of a pride and ego thing when you do it with without the cushion or towel and you got some heavy weights on there.

Most people are afraid to even do squats so wear it with pride

ya bro get use to it, when I use the sponge or a towel on the bar I find that when I go heavy the bar tends to role alittle and puts to much strain on my wrists.

actually, the girl I am with now had them when I met her on the beach ...
the convo was something like this :

"excuse me, if you don't mind me asking, but what are those marks from across your shoulders and neck there ?"

""oh, I maxed out squats the other day""

"I love you"

then it was

 all night long .........

dude those will go away in a few days anyway. Like the others said I like mine when I squat, just like I enjoy the calluses on my hands when I dead lift. Just a weird pyscological thing I guess.

Sad to say 20 of those hours were probably driving in Texas. You know that's the saying around here.....it takes 2 days to drive out of state, 1 day to get out of Texas and the other to get to where you're going.

LOL Woodsy. I get the marks all the time. I never use a pad or a towel. I'm pretty proud that I can move that kind of weight. It is a good convo starter too.
