But Tex the reason for dextrose is simple sugars so if you take in the straw/banana you should be ok too. I am just trying to decide if I should cut one or the other.
Thanks Tex
How is everything on the personal side man?

I said it looks ok, just not sure how many carbs are in 2 spoon fulls. :D I don't think it'll hurt mixed like that. Sounds like it's pretty tasty for sure.
Personal side, not sure until tomorrow when we'll have a chance to talk. But for now it looks like divorce is in my future.

IMO, are you cutting or bulking that is where the difference is. I like dex better in post workout things, Higher GI rating and quicker conversion. Fruits have fructose which goes to filling the liver before it goes to filling the muscles, not what you want post workout.

Ok-as far as post workout goes I am cutting down on fruits will just use the dextrose. But my question is they say you should have carbs in post workout shake and my shake with two scoops has 8 grams at best, does this matter. I like to add the fruit for the carbs.
Thanks Tex and Pain

You get your carbs in your postworkout shake from the dextrose. You want to try and use a 1:2 ratio, so 40g of protein I'd shoot for 70g or so of dextrose.

This was once given to me as an appropriate post-workout shake for a bulking diet:
*50-120 grams of dextrose (depending on bodyweight and intenstity of workout)
*35-60 grams of whey protein (basically in the 2:1 ration BigTexan mentioned above)
*5-15 grams of glutamine
*3-6 grams of creatine
This is all well and good, I suppose, and I plan on giving it a whirl. I, too, had simply been dropping fruit in my whey shake for those carbs, and the second I saw pain's statement, realized how I overlooked something BIG. I'll be trying this shortly (ie, tonight). One question, however, is dextrose easy to locate? Would GNC or Vitamin World have it...i'm sure it's easy enough to find out on my own by calling, but that's not the American way.
*Also, i'll not be using creatine but will finish off what glutamine I currently have left in these shakes.

Ok lazy...:D, GNC won't carry it but you can order it from here.....

I'd actually like it if ALLSPORTS would start carrying it. I just might have to give Jason a call on it.
sounds like a totally newbie question but:
what exactly does dextrose do? I always thought it was something ppl put in home-made creatine shakes

hey chinups how much you weigh? the amount should be based on your weight.
i'm 185 and i use 50g of protien and 85g of dex for post workout.
1/3 cup of dex is 75g of carbs and 75g of sugar.
i just use the 1/3 cup spoon and add a little bit more
i am on a cutting diet as well
and my post post meal and hour and a half later is the same amount of carbs and protien but in the form of whole food ex (chix and rice)
i also use 300mg of ala with each of those meals

Insulin sensitivity is a very important concept. Insulin (obviously a very anabolic hormone in the body) sensitivity is at its peak post-workout. You want to take advantage of this! By spiking your insulin levels at the right time (via simple sugars), you drive amino acids (protein) into your muscles at an incredible rate. I think something like Gatorade is better to use than dextrose. First, it's the only thing scientifically proven (in "supplement" form) to rehydrate you. Second, it gives you sodium and potassium. Third, it tastes great after your workout. Good luck.

I got mine from supplementdirect.com
I noticed that another site calls it powdered sugar. Is powdered sugar the same as dextrose?
