Week three in the AR fantasy football league saw a number of surprising results, as a previously undefeated team was blown out and two winless teams heading into the week's contests not only picked up a win, but one took the AllSportsNutrition.com award for high-scoring team of the week. In addition, this week proved to be perhaps the most tightly contested week, as three of the six games were still very much in question heading into Monday Night Football.
Buncha Bums 169 - Tequila Worms 151
Jumping on the shoulders of Andre Johnson (7 catches for 100+ yards and two scores), Patrick Ramsey (week three's dominant QB) and Ricky Williams, the Bums (1-2) were able to pick up their first victory against the Tequila Worms (1-2). The Worms saw strong and balanced play all around, but ultimately suffered from a lack of touchdown scoring and an untimely Marshall Faulk injury. Heading into Monday's contest, the Bums needed only an "showing" on the part of Shannon Sharpe to emerge victorious. Catching a TD pass in the first six minutes of the game, however, Sharpe left no room for the dramatic, winning the game for the Bums immediately.
Ivy Leaguers 173 - Dirty Dawgs 161
In a good ol' fashioned OK Corral Shootout, the Dawgs (1-2) and Leaguers (1-2) combined to post the highest scoring game of the week. The Dawgs, who would have emerged victorious against all but two teams this week, had the misfortune of running into one of the two teams who fit that description in week three. The Dawgs, as usual, saw strong performances from their wideouts (Amani Toomer and Aquan Boldin led the way with game high performances) but were outmatched in that department as the Leaguers' Chris Chambers and Ashley Lelie each put together solid performances. The game was a nail-biter, with the Leaguers down heading into Monday night and only the collapse of Rich Gannon allowing them to steal one from the Dawgs.
Hoosier Daddies 121 - Midgets on Swole 105
In a clash of the Anabolic Division's only undefeated teams, the Daddies (3-0) emerged victorious to remain the only Anabolic team heading into week four with an unblemished record. The Midgets (2-1) were devestated by poor performances at the RB position - normally a bright spot for this team. An injury to Travis Henry and the birth of Shaun Alexander's daughter unraveled this backfield and allowed the Daddies' to capitalize despite their own running back woes as they once again fell back on their strong receiving corp led by Terrell Ownes and his 8 catches for just under 100 yards.
Black Fury Whip 157 - Anabolic Texans 133
The Fury Whip, who at 3-0 remain the only undefeated Androgen team, faced a surprisingly tough fight from the now 0-3 Anabolic Texans. As has become commonplace, the Fury Whip rode a stellar Priest Holmes performance all the way to the bank...and for those who are curious, YES, the MONEY bank! Holmes' 2 TDs to accompany his 160 total yards off offense proved to be the backbreaker, though the Texans saw much to be optimistic about as LaDainian Tomlinson appears to have returned to his form of last year, racking up 105 yards on the ground and an additional 50 in the air to supplement his TD score. Additionally, the Texans' other San Diego Charger, David Boston, also appears to have set himself on the path to solid scores week in and week out.
Mutha Scrathaz 117 - Florida Fury 83
The previously undefeated Fury (2-1) were unable to keep pace with their Fury counterpart (the Fury Whip) in the Androgen Division, largely as a result of atrocious backfield play, as Warrick Dunn and Deuce McAllister each failed to rush for over 10 yards! The Scrathaz (2-1) saw another solid performance from Jamal Lewis (132 yards rushing and a score), and it would appear that a bye week for McNabb and a Rod Smith ejection for the Scrathaz could not have come in a better week.
Bad Bunnies 150 - Tuefel Hundes 131
Much like the Leaguers vs Dawgs and Bums vs Worms games, the outcome of this contest was largely left to be determined on Monday night. And, despite the Bunnies' (1-2) reliance on Clinton Portis, who was sidelined much of the game with a nagging injury (mustered only 10 carries for 42 yards), the fact that the Hundes (1-2) were counting on solid performances from Tim Brown and/or Charlie Garner, but received neither, sealed the fate of the Tuefel Hundes. The Bunnies continue to receive phenomenal play at WR from Laverneus Coles (7 catches for 105 yards).
