What a week, what a week! In what marked the beginning of interleague play, the proverbial playing field was leveled and then some this week, as virtually all teams stand within a game of one another in a league that has suddenly become fairly wide open. What initially looked to be a collection of three or four dynasties and a eight also-rans has suddenly become as competitive as a UNH drunken riot.
Mutha Scrathaz 179 – Buncha Bums 153
The Scrathaz (4-2) contine to enjoy the fruits of Ahman Green’s success (139 yards rushing, 51 receiving and two TDs to boot), though Marc Bulger’s performance once again makes the Scrathaz GM look like a draft day genius, racking up 30 points this week to push the Scrathaz over the edge against the Bums (2-4), who were devastated by the thumping Saint Louis gave to Atlanta in more ways than one. Not only did the Bums have to deal directly with the impact of Bulger’s performance, but they saw their own QB Doug Johnson put up very mediocre numbers in the same game (134 yards through the air with only an INT to show).
Tequila Worms 133 – Tuefel Hundes 110
The worms (2-4) saw consistent play all around this week, though the continuing improvement of early-drafted Jeremy Shockey (8 catches for 80 yards out of the TE position) certainly gives them reason to smile. Brad Johnson, once again, bolstered a good chunk of the load for the Worms, throwing for four touchdowns. The Hundes, who fall to 3-3, were hampered by abysmal play at the WR slot all around. The best line between the normally explosive combo of Tim Brown, Ed McAffrey and Peerless Price? 1 catch for 16 yards!
Florida Fury 179 – Hoosier Daddies 151
The Daddies (4-2), despite a fantastic performance from Steve McNair (breaking 400 yards through the air), ran into two problems this week: one, a slight dropoff in a normally high scoring WR crew, and, two, the misfortune of playing the week’s high scoring team. The Fury (4-2), saw an explosive day from WR Derrick Mason (almost 200 yards receiving and three TDs, two of those going for over 40 yards) in addition to a solid performance by his wide-out counterpart Keenan McCardell. If there is any cause for concern in the Fury lineup, it is the mediocre performance of both Hassleback and Leftwich.
Midgets on Swole 165 – Anabolic Texans 74
In the “Country Time Lemonade Blowout of the Week”, the Midgets (4-2) dominated the Anabolic Texans, who fell to 0-6, remaining the only winless team. Torry Holt (161 yards receiving with a pair of TDs for the effort) burdened a good chunk of the load for the Midgets, who may not have needed it against a team that saw their best performance come from their TE (Freddie Jones: 7 catches for 65 yards and a TD).
Black Fury Whip 139 – Dirty Dawgs 128
The Fury Whip (4-2) were just able to get by the Dawgs (2-4) in the “McMahon’s Low Cost Defibrillator Squeaker of the Week” thanks largely to, once again, Priest Holmes (who balanced out his day with 80 yards rushing and 60 receiving with a TD to boot). The Dawgs saw very balanced play from virtually all positions on the field, though the special teams aspect of kicker and team defense/special teams put up less than stellar numbers as compared to their averages.
Bad Bunnies 158 – Ivy Leaguers 128
Decimated at QB with injuries to Culpepper and Plummer, Tom Brady’s barely cracking 100 yards through the air didn’t help matters at that position for the now 3-3 Leaguers. The Bad Bunnies (4-2), on the other hand, so fantastic production at their QB position, as Favre went for 275 yards and two TDs, while Trent Green put up 400 yards in the air and bested Favre’s TD count by going one extra.
