true enough he was before his time, but the question is would bodybuilding be like it is today if he hadn't been "before his time"?

Grocho

Arnold was more than perfection. As Jason said, Would bodybuilding be like it is now if he never was who he was.

all hail king arnie !! :D ...... i bet the cycles they did back then were very ,very mild compared even to those done by some of our members , !! ......... please take note all the teens , please build agood foundation for about 5-6 years , then if you are serious , consider AS , don't jus jump on cycle after cycle without a base ( jus my thoughts ):lift:

no flame bro, but Arnie did start pretty early on AAS
some of his mentors from Austria said that

of course the cycles back then were pretty "mild"

there was a discussion in golds (or world) gym, where Arnie and friends discussed the dangers of increasing the dbol dosage by 5 mg (Ill look up the article and post more details)

in arnies time dbol and steak were it . Nowadays you got creatine and gh.:)

What I remember from the 70's is the famous D'bol, Deca cycles!
Seems like everybody who juiced back then,,,thats what they did first!

testprop
02-02-2002, 12:38 PM
they had testo, deca, dbol and some other stuff back then

steroids are nothing new, most of the things we use nowadays were used back then, except for slin and hgh

mando
02-02-2002, 01:03 PM
anyone know what the cycles were like back then ?? ..... i remember reading arnie saying that if you weigh over 200 lb then take 4 or 5 d/bol tabs or if you weigh less then 200lb then use no more than 3 tabs , they also did about 200 ml deca p/w.....i think i read it in mscle mag ............anyone know more ??:p

arnold is the most aestheticaly pleasing body builder whoever lived, he is unbelivable. . Arnieis also the best BB of all time hands down. It just goes to show, tha we dont need 1000 mgs of test or gear a week to get big. just hard work and dedication.
Arnold is such a motivator, i wanna look like him!!!!! ahhhhh oh ya

02-06-2002, 04:00 PM
Yeah, that guy, that legend, that icon sure had the physique I want as well...

I would really like to know about what kind of doses these guys took in the -70īs.

If those guys could grow so big back then of using so moderate doses of AAS, how big could they have been if they were young and in competition today?
Jeezez....!

Id rather have that "new" BB look, like Bigkev or coleman than look like arnie, no abs no density etc.

WHAT??? I think you need to look at Arnie's pics a little closer...no abs..what?? no density....WHAT? Arnold looks healthy and in phenominal shape, the "new" guys look like their life expectancy is mid 50's.

If i had to choose i would go with the older BBers. They could actually wear real clothes and still were fkn huge. What was Arnold in 1975 like 230lbs.? Id be happy with that. Peace, Doc.

arnold was king back then, no doubt about it. and i dont know anyone who would not want to look like arnold. but his physique wouldnt even place top 10 at a national ametuer show today. now make arnold 20 yrs old today, with all the advancements, and the realization that legs should be proportional to the rest of his body, combine that with his drive and genetics, and you would have a king again.

when ronnie gets arnolds age? ronnie will be 40 this year. i hope i look loke that when i am 40. shit, i want to look like that now!

Definately the greatest BB of all time. He really knew how to hit the Vacuums in the poses. I don't think the Pros today are mastered in the art of Vacuums, like the guys in the 70's were. Arnold,Nubret,And Zane had a Nasty Hands over head Abdominal Vacuum pose that was Sick.I gotta look for it.

This guys build is almost God-like. I give a lot of credit to the new more heavy BBers and I'm a big Coleman fan. But in my room I have a poster of Arnold and not of Ronnie because in my opinion this is the way a BBer's physique is supposed to be. But of course that's just my opinion.

RageControl...great pic's man

Some of you guys make me laugh when you praise Arnold and then praise Coleman also. You can't even compare the two. Arnold was aesthetically pleasing. Coleman is just mounds of muscle on top of muscle. It looks like shit. It is a shame that bodybuilding has become so size oriented and not about physique anymore. Whoever is the biggest wins, not who looks the best.

They had almost all of the chemicals that are available today. I have a friend that was a powerlifter in the late 60's and early 70's. He had prescriptions at the drug store for D-bol, test, Deca, Anavar, and anything else. The guys of that time just didn't abuse them. There was no desire to look as dumb as today's bodybuilder's do.

I agree, back then Im sure arnold could still live a "normal" life and do normal stuff. Today most bodybuilders probably can't swing a golf club right or swing a baseball bat correctly because of the over abundance of muslce.

My only grip (and it's a small one) with Arnold and most of the body builders of the time is their stick-like legs. All of the bodybuiders back then had a sort of "Mighty-Mouse" look.

Even Arnold admits that he did not focus on his legs until he was an already established pro and lost a competition to someone (I forget the name).

It was not until Tom Platz came on the seen that you began to see more emphasis on full leg development.

I agree, it's all about the physique, and how it looks on certain people. Not just muscle on top of muscle. That's just a waste.

Arnold has a very, very asthetically pleasing body.

But we all must advance, if you said to Arnold back then "fancy another 30lbs of muscle" would he turn ya down???

I don't think the problems come from the steroids but from the new bodybuilding drugs like HGH, insulin. BB has become insane since the early 90s.

If you look at arnold you wil notice that his chest takes up more area than his abdominals do, this is why his pecs were so spectacular. He is the ultimate **** morph.

IMO today's bodybuilders are just gross...they're just like a circus ppl go to see the shows just to  at the size of these guys. I don't know too many ppl that wanna look like ronnie with his gut and everything. And just imagine the toll on the body of all the shit they take. I was reading somewhere that these guys have to inhale o2 off-stage?? I'm not saying these guys aren't dedicated..but come on 255-270 contest...

That's why i changed my whole look about steroids. I figure if they can do it with low doses back then..so should i infact i should have the advantage with all the nutrional supplements....protein bars..powders etc..etc.

Yeah, listening to Arnold in Pumping Iron and then Ronnie in The Unbelievable is "feel-the-difference" experience.
