    M.A training and football

I know this might have been discussed but.......................

Im watching The Replacements the other day and Gene Hackman had me thinking about something.......why not have a few sumo wrestlers in the league. I know that size isnt everything but there's alot of techinique behind sumo wrestling also. These guys are big flexible and can maintain there balance and power while squating extremly low. Not to mention the hand play they posses is nothing short of incredible.

To the very least..... I would invite a sumo trainer to practice or recommend it in the off season for some of my linemen.

Does anyone know if any linemen do this?

    THOUGHTS?

I personally don't think that there is any way that they could make it through an entire game. With the training regiments they have (eating, then sleeping. Eating, then sleeping. And so on and so fourth) I see no way that they would have the cardiovascualr capability to play. Beyond that, they definitely would have to play in the interior line and I personally don't think they are strong enough to compete against d-tackles (I saw a video a while back of a U.S. soldier practically manhandle a sumo wrestler, while he was stationed somewhere in the east). But, I guess you never know until you try (which with the money NFL players make is one of the reasons I am sure that they will never waste any on a sumo wrestler).

hand technique and size will not get you a job on the line. just like world class sprinters fail miserably when they try to be wide recievers. much, much more to being a ballplayer.

Even if it became one, I doubt the best players would participate. With what they get paid, I am sure that they wouldn't want to risk a season or career ending injury. I know I wouldn't even give it a second thought.
