Upper Back Pain HELP PLEASE
I posted this in the over 30's section but I will post here as well, because I am in dire straights:
MY FUCKING UPPER BACK IS KILLING ME. Tell me what you think. One morning about 5 weeks ago I woke up with a small ache in my upper back, around T-1 vetebra a little to the right, I immeadiately iced it and made an appointment with my chiropractor. It keeps getting progressively worse, and of course I make more appointments, I mean by the third week I consider myself in rehab, electric stimulation 2X a day and ultrasound. Nothing is working and I decide to go to my practioner to get prescribed muscle relaxants, flexerall, which actually do relieve the spasm, for the time I'm on them. Needless to say I have not lifted over 135 lbs in three and half weeks. I kinda realize that this pain is here to stay, which I can deal with so I go back to the gym tonight and train moderate chest. THIS IS NOW SERIOUS AND MY PROBLEM GETS BIGGER.
Well I cant contract the right side of my chest for nothing, my back is killing me, my right tricep wont contract. I mean I can do a cable fly and my left pec will contract fine, nice and full, but my right pec is flat and soft, no matter how hard I squeeze.
Is it possible that I have some nerve damage in my upper back that is effecting my tri and chest. The pain from this back injury radiates to my right elbow straight thru to my tricep. It is the only thing I can attribute it too. Maybe my nerves are pinched and there is some kind of neurological thing happening. Please Please anyone with similiar injury respond with a cure. Thanks for your help. Dr. D

Well S#*! bro.....I feel for you man...you say you have been to the chiro, but have you tried deep therapeutic massage where they basically beat the hell out of you for an hour a couple times a week...I heard it really can help.....just a thought....(I probably would go see some kind of specialist though)
Good Luck,
D

I have not had deep tissue yet, only light. I will go see if I can get refferal tomorrow and see what happens, maybe X-Ray and MRI to check out anything that may be going on.
My Chiro cant manipulate me that well because of my size and stiffness, although he can move the left side but he cant even budge the right.
Thanks for the advice. I will see where the X-Ray's lead and then consider deep tissue. The only problem I have with deep tissue is that you need to be confidant in your therapist, because there are alot of people who dont know a fucking thing about the body that claim they do. Peace

Did your chiro say you have any locked vertebrae? If so you may be pinching a nerve causing your problem in your right side. I had a locked vertebrae in the paste is was L3 L4 however I also pinched a nerve. I found that no matter how many times I went to get it adjusted the pain and discomfort was still present. I then turned to deep massage. I went 3 times a week. The problem was that because the vertebre was locked and was pinching down on a nerve, my bodies first reation was to spasim the muscles around the area. Which in turn created more pain. The muscles where doing this to protect the injured area. I would go for an adjustment but within an hour my spasimed muscles would pull the vertebrae back and lock them again. The massage allowed for the muscles to relax and then with an adjustment from my chiro together for a month the problem finally was fixed.
Hope this helps you signs and syptoms sound similar to mine.

This sounds similar, thanks I will try to see exactly what the chiro has to say, he has said so far that it is just a spasm that wont release. I went for X-Ray's today and will be seeing a PT tomorrow, thanks again

Dr. D..
Well, I hope as of this writing your problem has self resolved although I seriously doubt it.
If you don't have any long term relief from the Chiro, I would seek a referral t a specialist. It sounds like it may be nerve realted and this will require a little more of an aggressive approach. Last resort surgicla, but don't dismiss the possibility.
Worse case scenario it is neurologically based and then you will certainly need a specialist. It can be many things such as mild nerve disruption or damage, a small mass or cyst putting pressure on your nerve bundles, or a tumor of some type. If you start to experience any type of numbness or paralysis in your opposing limbs, I recommend a trip to the nuerologist for further testing. Keep us apprised of your prognosis and subsequent treatment regimine. Good Luck!
