    Lee Priest retiring?

    Caught this off of Getbig

Lee Priest's simple statement of retirement on May 23 stunned many of us here at Getbig. "I will say again that I am out. The sport is no longer fun for me. And to see what's happening to a lot of good athletes is crazy. Cause in the end all you have is your health and some of the greats don't even have that."
So what does this mean? At this time, Lee is retired, but we are all hoping, with Lee's fans encouraging him, that he will make one last stand at the 2003 Mr. Olympia. More to come soon...

Man that comes as a shock to me too. Never in the least did I think that he would be the one retiring next. He seemed so hungry!!!

My opinoin is if he started and got to where he is he better make it damn good. But christ he already did, he's one of the top names in the sport. It can be a freaky sport (pun intended) and I'd be petrified after what happenned to burke etc.

That's a shame. Lee Priest has always been one of the few pro bodybuilders who's physique I actually admired, because he is not a big ugly disproportionate ogre. Also you always want to root for the little guy and I'm sure for someone of his size to achieve that level of development was not easy. I would have thought that he would have won a title by now just on the merit of his effort if not by pure superiority but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. But he is probably better off graciously retiring than sticking around to become a crusty old has been always placing in the 6-10 range :\

wasn't there an article/interview where he basically vented about getting frustrated with the sport. he was really jaded about competitive bb in the interview slagging just about everyone (w/o naming). so honestly it doesn't come as a surprise.

It's sad to see him go. If he was competing in arnold's day, where proportionality was more important than size, he would've been banging down arnold's door for those o's. I feel bad, because lee's right when he says that his life's ambition is to see a BB contest judged properly.
