Advice for aspiring Pros?

Hey im 17 right now and have been training for about a year and a half, what advice can any of you people that compete give me on making my path as a pro BBer clear?

Be willing to dedicate your entire life to it and nothing else, and do absolutely anything to get there including putting yourself in the poor house and poor health. Being a pro is not a glamerous lifestyle unless you're at the top.. which very very very few have the genetic abilitity to do.

What kind of time investment is it terms of years to achive pro size and quality muscle. I like weightlifting for the way it makes me feel but i would like to know how long it takes the "average pro" to get to that level?

It takes years and if you dont have great genetics dont bother trying to become a pro!

thanks I think, not that sure what you ment about the knee pads.look i do not have the time or the desire, let alone the genetic base to become a PRO. I just like the gym and was curious about the time involed in getting to the pro level, so again I say thanks, I think , for your time it took to answer my question. cj

I'm finishing up my University degree and becoming a teacher so no matter what comes my way with bodybuilding i'll always have that to fall back on... Dreams and Goals are an important part of living... and if your dream is to be a pro bodybuilder then by all means go for it... But know the risks... Know the lifestyle your getting yourself into... Know that genetics plays a 90% role... and know that few will make pro... but even fewer will make any money doing it... Peace.

hey bro, i am not knocking you or flaming in any way, so dont take it as that. but if you give up on everything as easy as you did this, you wont ever be anything. bodybuilding is a great sport, a hard one, but anything worth having you have to work for it. and your 17, you have no idea bout your genetics yet, im a hellof alot bigger now than i was at 17, and like you and many on this site, im chasin that same dream, and i personally dont believe genetics are the biggest downfall, its in your heart dog. so dont give up.

I have said this before, but I'll say it again. Saying you're going to become a pro, is like saying you're going to hollywood to become an actor. You've got a cat's chance in hell, and people are gonna laugh at you. You might work your dick off 10x harder than everyone else everyday, and there's a good chance that won't be close to being enough, while some guys will just lounge around and beat you every single time. So, anways good luck.
