    How to remove programs, that arent there?

    I have windows xp, in my add/remove programs list, I have a bunch of programs that are uninstalled...from a while ago, why are they still showing up...I cant remove them either...how do I get them off my pc?

    how do i get them out of the add/remove programs list?...the files are gone

    Can you right click and remove....

    if not... use the search file..

    it is a directory within ............ i think the sys files.. so you have to look there..

    or just search for the file name..

    best way... sorry........... i know there is a folder just cant't remember the name of it..............

    the programs to be listed in your Add/Remove programs list are stored in your registry. therefore you will *not* be able to remove them from the list by doing a file search and randomly deleting associated files...in fact, this would be rather moronic. to access your registry, go to Start>>Run>>'regedit'. however, tampering with your registry can be quite harmful if you don't know what you're doing. i'm on my way out the door, but let me look around later and i'll give you exact directions as to where in the registry the values are located etc.

    After doing a little digging.....this is what I found
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Microsoft\Wind ows\Uninstall
    Once I removed the registry entries, the programs were no longer on the add/remove programs listing. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
