    Diet while at work

Im going to start my internship next week. It's only three days a week since it's for credit, and I was thinkin there is no way I'm going to be able to eat as much as I do now while at work. For any of you with jobs 9-5 with only one lunch break HOW DO YOU DO IT? Any advice or feedback is appreciated.

Great question. I would bring some pre-cooked food to work and eat at your desk. I mean, people will eat donuts and drink coffee at their desk, so you can eat salmon or chicken there too. It really depends on your job and the office enviornment. Nuts are also a GODSEND since they are small, portable and filling.

Just make the best possible choices of what will be available and then get back to eating strict when your 3 days are over.

IVe thought of all this, but do any of you actually bring in protein shakes, tuna, etc. to your office? I feel like i could only get away with a protein bar.

You think you'll actually get to leave your desk during your "lunch break"? Bah ha ha ha ha. Not if you were my intern.

Dude, just bring some food and eat at your desk. Everyone does it - although too many people eat donuts instead of chicken and soda instead of protein shakes.

So enough 'guys in the know' (yourself, Daman, etc) preach out against bars and MRPs, or at least their excessive use that I have been firmly converted to that viewpoint, I would, however, appreciate if you guys could explain exactly why they're so inferior. SImply for my own edification if nothing else

Well since this is a public forum, I will take a stab at your question. Besides protein bars being expensive, not quite filling (for me at least - I'd need 2 or 3), and full of crappy sugars and sometimes hydrogenated oils (no good!!), they just don't provide as much nutritional "bang for the buck" like, say a green leaf salad (keep the carbs in check though!) with olive oil and cold chicken or tuna tossed on top. I mean with the chicken/fish/beef salad (I like) you not only get EFA's, but you get tons of vitamins and MEAT with all of its potassium, iron, protein, vitamins etc. For another idea, you can cook some hardboiled eggs at home and bring those in too as a snack - eat them whole. Now not much packs more nutrition per ounce and per dollar than eggs - . For $1/dozen and all the nutrition you get, you can't go wrong. Compared to protein bars and MRP's, whole eggs or a meat salad like I just described would be FAR superior choice.

And besides that, what did guys do without protein bars & MRP's in the past when they weren't available? Eat real, quality food, that's what. They couldn't eat protein bars and they still had great physiques. Why not do the same today?

Everyone knows its absolutely better to eat real food rather than MRPs and protein bars, but... the latter are better than nothing, right? If you can get to nothing else, those will do, but try to get some real foods as your main nutritional sources. Do your best to eat well when you can...

I had a leadership conference last week. Optimum chocolate and plain almonds (not to mention a ton of coffee) got me through it. Mark

    BadMan..you desk sounds like mine..except I have 2 drawers

second from the bottom: liquid clen , liquidex, multi vitamins, vitamin b12, b6, a, fish oil, calcium, biotin, vanadyl sulfate, e, c, saw palmetto, milk thistle, folic acid, and nolvadex .

bottom drawer: 10 7.1oz tuna pouches, olive oil, flax oil, non fat coffee creamer, cream of rice, cinnamon, forks, spoons, knives, bowl, coffee cup and mustard.

so the moral of the story is...you can make it work. People call me big tuna, but that's a price i pay with pride!!

Ha ha ha. You may be a harder slave driver than me. I've never fired anyone for too many trips to the water cooler.
