PROTEIN question
It is reccommended that you consume 2 - 2 1/2 X's your weight in grams of protein per day. Usually through eating at leasat 5 - 6 meals plus protein shakes. My question is this though. I though the body could only synthesize 35 grams of protein at 1 time/ sitting/ serving. If this is the case, then where are the other 18 grams of protein going that I am consuming? I am drinking protein shakes with 53 grams per serving.

Where/Who recommends this?
The only real well-known "recommendation" I've heard of is 1.5 to 2 grams of protein per lb. of lean body mass. 2.5 seems excessive.

Ok cool. thanks for the help. But what about the synthesis of 35 grams per sitting? Is that true or what? And since I weigh 150lbs Im comsuming about 315 grms a day. Is that too much? Thanks again

315 is probably a little much at 150lbs. but if you can pull it off, then more power to ya! I would say you could get away with dropping it to about 240-250 though. And as far as the protein that your body isn't using, some can be stored as fat, and some might be expelled as waste.

Yup. That and I was busy holdin' it down for myself on Elite's diet board.
Gotta get involved in drama at times. It saps energy, but in the end the blinding radiance that gleams eternal is what prevails, and success multiplies in this light.

Trying2gethuge: The actual recommended protein suggestion is .8 grams per kilogram of body weight for the normal SEDENTARY individual. There are 2.2 pounds per kilo. Therefore, as an example, if you were 220 pounds you would weigh 100 kilos. If you were sedentary the recommended dosage of protein would be 80 grams (.8 x 100 kilos = 80 grams). HOWEVER, the popular recommendation for bodybuilders is around 1-1.5 grams per pound (even higher if your on the juice because your body can assimilate more protein when your taking AS). Therefore if you're 150 pounds I'd suggest you take between 150-225 grams of protein per day. This way you could have your 6 meals a day with 35 gr per meal and still get 210 grams...not too bad. I'm amazed your body could even handle 315 grams...I would think you'd be in the bathroom all day... :-) good luck!

A 150 lb lifter at 10% bf should have around 200-270 grams of protein per day. Better to err on the higher side than the lower side. But you are right in saying that the protein should be spread throughout the day.
