Carbs before lifting
How many grams of carbs are sufficient for your pre lifting meal? Right now I'm eating 1/4 rottissiree chicken (without skin) and a side of creamed spinach from Boston Market as my pre lifting meal. As I checked it, it came to 31 g of protein and 12 g of carbs. Is that too little grams of carbs to eat before lifting?
I did a search, and SwoleCat, who I think is one of if not the most knowledgeable one on the board, said in one thread basically that (when talking about carbs for energy) the carbs you consume pre lifting are not as important as the carbs you have been consuming over the last 6-10 hours. Here is the thread for the EXACT quote:
Pre workout carbs?
Keep in mind I'm trying to cut, but I want energy for my workout.

I only eat carbs in the morning on lifting days and I lift in the evening or afternoon. There is really no benifit to eating carbs before you lift only time they are needed is after to replenish muscles.

The carbs you eat will not be readily available as energy until many hours after you've consumed them. There are people who say that they seen a noticable effect if they eat carbs before a weight training session, just try not to have them right before a workout, your body will being trying to digest the food this may hinder the intesity of your workout. Everybody is diffreent so try to see if they do help by adding a carb meal 2-3 hours for a couple of workouts to see if they do help

Basically, any carbs you consume immediately prior to lifting will not be available to you during your workout. So, your question is really moot. I'm guessing Swole said the same thing.
As far as energy for your workouts, give the cutting sticky a try. I and many others use it and to my knowledge, none of us have a problem with having enough energy for our workouts.

I seem to have a problem with energy if I dont have some carbs in me an hour before I lift.

That's all in your head..... this has been said time and time again but I will say it once more. In order for carbs to be used for energy when you lift they would have had to have been eaten 4-6 hours prior to lifting.
