Whats Wrong with fried food?
when trying to reduce body-fat a suggestion you often here is "Avoid fried foods"
but you also told to raise your 'good fat levels' eg omega 3 and 6 EFA's that are found in flax/olive oil
so is it ok to fry your chicken , rice or eggs in this type of oil? or does something happen to it when it is heated that i dont know about?
serious question...
this issue has confused me for ages

Fried food is usually indicative of "batter" of some sort = flour.
As well, foods are usually fried in ****ty oil.
Using egg whites w/some olive oil however, is a totally different story.

but does it matter if you are using quality oil with EFA's?
i know you should eat meals of protein + carb or Protein + fat but does it matter if you have protein + carb + fat in some of your meals?

hold a minute does the same thing apply to a tuna sandwich?
i know bread isnt ideal, but i've been working abroad in Nigeria and the food here is limited
i've been using brown bread with a whole can of tuna (undrained)

what does PPWO mean? pre workout meal?
i supose i could just bring in a can of tuna and a jar of mayo to work - i have never eaten tuna/mayo on its own before so i dont know how it will tast but i'll give it a go
its not so much that i like tuna (i dont like it that much but i tolerate it for the protein and EFA's) its just i am working in Nigeria a lot, and tins of tuna is about the only protein based food i can get hold of, apart from eggs - which i eat first thing in the morning and last thing at night
i take protein bars with me overseas though and usually have one of those about an hour before a workout

i just thought - protein bars nearly always contain fat and carbs as well as protein.
whats the deal with that?

Garbage!
Funny, the are called Lean Body, but won't help you acquire one.
Tuna w/mayo is your best bet, lose the bread.

You asked if I recommend them?
No. Never.
In your situation or when bulking, I suppose you could, even though I'd make other choices that are better for my goals, and taste better to me as well. I'm not a bar person by taste either, but that reason is second only to the fact they are nutritionally inadequate.
IE: If they were good for you, but tasted like monkey @ss, yes I'd even eat them.

Lots of TFA's and other hidden fats. The whole thing is processed garbage.
Should be interesting next year when the amounts of TFAs have to be listed on the label.

since this thread i have been munching on tuna and mayo 2 - 3 times a day, and its safe to say i am pretty sick of it already. i here that it is possible to add veg to your protein/fat meals as veg doesnt affect insulin /blood sugar
is this correct?
if so, is it ok to add some sweetcorn to my tuna and mayo meals?

Corn/carrots/peas are all full of sugar. Not a good idea with mayo (fat) no.

**** it.
i've mixed sweetcorn into my tuna/mayo twice today
all this tuna/mayo is making me feel ill
i can add tesco fruity source (like worcester sauce) but i'm guessing that is full of sugar too (it doesnt say on the bottle)

most fried foods will result in trans fats, so if you fry anything try not to use an oil with a low smoking point.
-
08-25-2004, 11:37 PM #37
i've even heard cooking using olive oil will turn the oil into a trans or saturate kind?

if you cook with olive oil all the healthy fats you think you are getting are really trans fats. they are all transformed under the high temperatures of cooking. if you're going to listen to a nutritionist it is only recommended to cook with coconut oil. non of it can turn to trans fats, among many other health benefits.
