    Whats Wrong with fried food?

when trying to reduce body-fat a suggestion you often here is "Avoid fried foods"

but you also told to raise your 'good fat levels' eg omega 3 and 6 EFA's that are found in flax/olive oil

so is it ok to fry your chicken , rice or eggs in this type of oil? or does something happen to it when it is heated that i dont know about?

    serious question...

this issue has confused me for ages

Fried food is usually indicative of "batter" of some sort = flour.

As well, foods are usually fried in ****ty oil.

Using egg whites w/some olive oil however, is a totally different story.

I agree. But I would stay away from frying rice in anything. That $hit soaks up oil like a sponge and you'll have high amounts of carbs and fat - something to avoid.

    yeah good point

but does it matter if you are using quality oil with EFA's?

i know you should eat meals of protein + carb or Protein + fat but does it matter if you have protein + carb + fat in some of your meals?

Carbs and fats have a synergistic effect on raising insullin levels. This may fit into your plan, but probably not since you are cutting.

Mixing carbs/fats while cutting is putting a delicious pistol to your head, not a good idea.

hold a minute does the same thing apply to a tuna sandwich?

i know bread isnt ideal, but i've been working abroad in Nigeria and the food here is limited

i've been using brown bread with a whole can of tuna (undrained)

If you are still following your first post with goals to lose fat, tuna is a great choice for meals, BUT, the only time you would want to add a complex carb to this is PPWO meal and there are several better suggestions for complex carbs then bread of any kind. I personally also couldnt digest plain tuna and bread myself, it would have to be mixed with somethin which would defeat any purpose of cutting or clean bulking. If you like tuna, which I do too, i personally suggest either full fat mayo, OR tuna and mustard with some sort of EFA, OR tuna and hot sauce with some sort of EFA to help achieve your original goal of cutting according to your first post in this thread. I would not add any carbs to a tuna meal and I would find some other protein source besides tuna to consume in my PPWO protein/complex carb meal.

    Good luck,

    -ost

what does PPWO mean? pre workout meal?

i supose i could just bring in a can of tuna and a jar of mayo to work - i have never eaten tuna/mayo on its own before so i dont know how it will tast but i'll give it a go

its not so much that i like tuna (i dont like it that much but i tolerate it for the protein and EFA's) its just i am working in Nigeria a lot, and tins of tuna is about the only protein based food i can get hold of, apart from eggs - which i eat first thing in the morning and last thing at night

i take protein bars with me overseas though and usually have one of those about an hour before a workout

i just thought - protein bars nearly always contain fat and carbs as well as protein.

    whats the deal with that?

PPWO is post post workout. It's the meal you eat 45-60 minutes after your PWO shake.

    Garbage!

Funny, the are called Lean Body, but won't help you acquire one.

Tuna w/mayo is your best bet, lose the bread.

You asked if I recommend them?

    No. Never.

In your situation or when bulking, I suppose you could, even though I'd make other choices that are better for my goals, and taste better to me as well. I'm not a bar person by taste either, but that reason is second only to the fact they are nutritionally inadequate.

IE: If they were good for you, but tasted like monkey @ss, yes I'd even eat them.

Lots of TFA's and other hidden fats. The whole thing is processed garbage.

Should be interesting next year when the amounts of TFAs have to be listed on the label.

too bad most people, especially the everpresent "general public", dont even know what that means....isnt it ironic that we have trans fat bc scientists/food people wanted to find a healthier method in food production. now we have these which are even worse. way to go research!

Using peanut oil in moderation is great, just don't overdo it. Some oils, however, are okay to load on- like extra virgin olive oil. You mentioned your lame a** tuna- try this. I drain one can of tuna and one can of salmon. Toss in bowl with a few tablespoons olive oil (in place of mayo), and throw in a few sliced almonds- for crunch. Add a little pepper to taste- and shizzam! I love to throw some on a big lettuce leaf and add some salsa- and a little cheese if you're feeling dirty

since this thread i have been munching on tuna and mayo 2 - 3 times a day, and its safe to say i am pretty sick of it already. i here that it is possible to add veg to your protein/fat meals as veg doesnt affect insulin /blood sugar

    is this correct?

if so, is it ok to add some sweetcorn to my tuna and mayo meals?

    **** it.

i've mixed sweetcorn into my tuna/mayo twice today

all this tuna/mayo is making me feel ill
i can add tesco fruity source (like worcester sauce) but i'm guessing that is full of sugar too (it doesnt say on the bottle)

most fried foods will result in trans fats, so if you fry anything try not to use an oil with a low smoking point.

if you cook with olive oil all the healthy fats you think you are getting are really trans fats. they are all transformed under the high temperatures of cooking. if you're going to listen to a nutritionist it is only recommended to cook with coconut oil. non of it can turn to trans fats, among many other health benefits.
