it is unnecessary. It is added for other things that we need not have in our diets. I have heard mixed reports on it, expectorant, or maybe it is in there to make sure you don't take in to much ephedrine as it will cause you to vomit if you induce to much guaf. I just want the pure stuff it is easier to regulate my diet that way.....

Ok I was wrong: I thought Guaifenesin was added to make you throw-up IF you took too many but

Guaifenesin is an expectorant.

Guaifenesin loosens phlegm and increases the lubrication of your lungs allowing for a productive cough and decreased chest congestion.

Guaifenesin is used to reduce chest congestion caused by the common cold, infections, or allergies.
