Diet for getting lean first, whilst also putting on muscle
I have a mate that is starting out bodybuilding, but he wants to go on a mass building diet that will also help him to lose weight. He has 15.5" arms, but lean I would say he was probably a 13" arm.
Is the right diet, a high protein one low in fat with a reasonable amount of carbohydrate?
Would that help cut off the fat but put on muscle. If so, he would actually get smaller arms first and then they would get bigger but is that the right type of diet?
Thanks for any help...
At the moment I'm on a high protein diet of about 100-120 grams of protein a day and probably about 3000 calories

In my opinion everyone overconsumes protein. I gain a quarter of an inch of muscle every month. People I know have easily reached 16" arms without steroids and just by working hard and eating a normal diet consisting of plenty of meat and dairy. I agree that people that do hours of hard lifting and cardio do need a lot of protein thoughLast edited by Flexor; 08-17-2004 at 07:34 AM.

Ok, so 60kg = 132 pounds, so you are still eating less than 1 gram per pound and no that isn't enough unless you just want to maintain 60 kg.

According to Edmund R. Burke, PhD, "Athletes who exercise for several hours at a time can actualy lose msucle mass because they burn a high percentage of protein for fuel. To help maintain muscle mass these athletes may benefit from up to 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight"
Now I'm no athlete, but i'm having 1 gram, I don't understand all these conflicting sources

Until you do some research and learn A LOT, just try to find a starting point. A good one for me was 40/40/20. protein / carbs / fat. Eat clean and adjust your diet as you grow physically and mentally

Couple questions...
You are 132lbs, and gain a 1/4" of muscle each month?
You must be like 3 feet tall bro... and jakt!
