Which breads are ok?
It is my understanding that one should steer clear of white bread due to the refined flour - whole wheat bread is ok since it doesn't cause the insulin spike that white bread does... is this true? Does this mean that other non-white breads are ok too, such as honey oat and rye bread?
Thanks!

Whole wheat breads (the real ones that use whole wheat flour, not just bleached flour that has been dyed brown) are better than white breads. However, none of them are that good for you. Especially if cutting, you'll want a lower GI, slower digesting source of carbs - try oats, brown rice, etc.

Thanks for the replies everyone... yeah, I know no breads are really that good for you but I was wondering about the better ones for those times when you really don't have a choice.
So whole wheat is the best - how about honey oat - specifically Subway's honey oat? Sometimes I get a 6' chicken sub for lunch... would like to know if this bread is ok so I don't always have to get whole wheat.
What about rye bread? It isn't made with bleached flour is it?
Thanks!

I say away from it almost entirely. Atkins makes a 7gm carb bagel. If you have half, its just 3.5 grams. Its mostly fiber, and might dissapoint you if you are used to the regular stuff. Still its an indulgense that I take once every couple weeks. 3.5g won't kill me (or you).

The best bread is the gluten free bread...Usually this can only be picked up a natural food store like wild oats/harvest...Since they have a very short shelf life and a very high price tag, it's not very popular...
Almost any major chain rest that says wheat isn't using 100%, it's a small percentage of wheat and the rest is white dyed brown like cb25 says...

If i go around 2 my parents house 4 tea or something, sometimes ma has home made
Gluten free cotage cheese bread man it is so good.
i dont want 2 ask if its good or bad because that would ruin the experience.
