When I take my PWO shake I usually just slam it in one big gulp. Would it be better if I sip it?
In other words, does it make a difference result wise if you slam it in 10 seconds or sip it for like 15 minutes?

I always slam them so I can eat my next meal that much quicker. I don't think it matters though.

That's something I've often wondered myself. I've read instructions on some of those premade drinks were it states you're to drink them over a fifteen minute period. Seemed odd to me but I guess it has something to do with digestion. I slam them myself.
i slam it, i will drink slowly for a few weeks and see if anythign diff happens..haha

i was told to make sure that the pwo should be taken in 1 litre of water and to drink 1/2 of it quickly after workout and sip the 2nd 1/2 for the next 45-60 mins to get a constant flow of nutrients..i will try and find the article

IMO i don't think you need to slam it, whey is one of the fastest digesting proteins, IMO when you slam it there is more potential for some % to be wasted, if you sip it you will be supplying yourself with protein over the next 15 minutes - i just sip mine, 1g pure honey, 2 scoops O.N. Whey, 1 scoop Complex carbs - the shake is approx 500 calories.Quote:

Your stomach will control the rate at which it reaches the intestine and thus the rate at which it is absorbed. Sipping it over 15 minutes wont change anything physiologically.
I wonder what Swole thinks is better. I would like to hear his view on the 'sip or slam' subject.

I would sip, but i really hate protein/dex/water mixture so i slam it. But here lately my stomach's been really f*cked up and i been sh!t'n through a screen door.

Depends how busy I am. Usually it gets slammed.
I once heard that you should sip because some of it gets apsorbed in your mouth, dont know if thats true, I slam mine coz I hate the taste

Well I've been slamming mine right after my last set of my last exercise since I started drinking PWO shakes.
Is it safe to say I've been wasting them all this time because I've been slamming them?
For christ sake no! In the long run you may possibly see a 1% difference, if any, between sipping and slamming.
People: please do not forget that bodybuilding is a 24 hour activity with many gray areas. It is not all black and white. Aggression - what you eat and do in the other 23 hours 59 minutes of the day are what count, not whether you drink your PWO shake in 10 seconds or 10 minutes.

I dont chug it by any means, but I am not gentle with either...I drink it as fast as I might eat something else...over a 4 or 5 minute period.

I think it would be ok to slam it down if you are taking a small amount of protein, but for the ones that take a fair bit of protein PWO, I would think it would be better to sip it down slowly over a small period of time for absorption purposes.
