    frying in olive oil??

hi. i usually cook foods like hash browns in vegetable oil. a few other foods too. there is a lot of fat in this tho, and i'm not so sure it's good fat. so, would olive oil work the same to cook/fry foods in? and, is olive oil any healthier for u than vegetable or is it no big deal? thanks

    I didn't know this.

My question is "why are you eating fried hashbrowns, anyway?"

That's a partial myth. If you gently sautee or fry then you have no problem at all. It is only if you go past smoking point that it destroys the EFA's in olive oil. Note I said DESTROYS THE EFA's. It doesn't magically transform it into an unhealthy fat.

So if you are gently frying chicken/eggs etc. it's fine. If you need high heat eg. steak or using a wok, use something with a higher smoking point which is still healthy. These include grapeseed oil and virgin coconut oil.

4 oz. of hashbrowns have 230 calories, 2g protein, 24g carbs, and 14g fat. I think there are a lot better choices.
