Solid white albacore = something from the sea that is pallatable.

Chunk light tuna = fish eyes/balls/dicks/guts/ass.

But is there any nutritional difference? Like does chunk light have more salt or something like that?

No nutritional difference. The other stuff just tastes like cat food. If you can handle the taste of the cheap stuff, there is no diffence.

If there is some reason that you are concerned about salt (and I generally do not) you can buy sodium free tuna. My market sells it. Better yet buy fresh tuna and make it yourself. O sodium and zillions times better than the stuff from the can.

Albacore contains about 2-3g of protein more per 100g (drained)...

Another thing to consider is that albacore has higher mercury concentration. I considered it but I can't stand the chunk light any more. I don't buy into too much of the mercury hype but I don't go nuts on the tuna any more. Like to mix in salmon and top sirloin steaks.

Ditto. I don't eat very much salmon (actually, nearly none at all) but I too eat alot of steak, and tons of lean ground beef.

Ummm not to argue the point, but if you drained both completely and then divided it up into equal weights, the amount of protien would be identical. What you are referring to is the fact that they put more liquid in the albacore- you can believe it or not.

You do not believe that there are mercury concentrations in salmon? Where do you think the mercury comes from?

Frankly, there isn't much you can do about it.

No, that's not what I'm referring to.

I'm referring to the actual protein amounts, nothing to do with weight.

For instance, a can Clover Leaf Chunk Light Tuna contains roughly 3g of protein less than a can of Clover Leaf Albacore canned tuna... per can, with indentical drained weights.

You'll have a higher fat content in Solid than in Chunk light

beenie, much lower concentrations in salmon. The bigger the tuna the more likely it has eaten more mercury.

Check this out by the Dept of Health and Human services. It shows canned light in the low mercury section with .12 mean. Salmon, fresh or frozen is only .01.....

Also check out the Albacore (.35) and fresh/frozen tuna (.38)

So I would say it shows pretty good data that eating a piece of fresh tuna has about 38 times more mercury then a piece of fresh salmon.

Not that it has anything to do with nutrition or protein, but albacore isn't really tuna. It's called False Albacore (fake tuna). Mercury content has more to do with where and when the fish was caught than anything. For instance, where I live, sometimes they say not to eat the mackerel out of the ocean because of mercury, and sometimes it's ok.

And Chicken of the Sea has 2 grams more protien than Bumble Bee. Thier tuna are "special."
